Actually i`ve known someone that got threatened by a guy with a gun. It was in some discotheque, 2 groups got heavy words and went outside. One pulled out a gun. Prolly some psycho. Other group went back inside. Nothing really happened. But not only in america as you can see.

And since we`re living in the gsm-era, someone that`s alone can get backup in no time as well.

only restriction that I'm aware of is you have to be over 21 and not be a felon. Other than that, I can walk into a gun store, plop down a couple hundred dollars and walk out with a Kalashnikov. >:) hehehe.
