I'm going to uni in 2005 before topup fees (phew) and I was wondering if somepeople that are at uni can give me recommendations on them. I'm planning on either, York, Lampeter, Hull, Sheffield, Newcastle, Exeter or Cardiff to do an archaeology degree.

Mm never realised that archeology can be written as archaelogy. I learn things every day.

Since i know jack about english universities: don't go to Hull, he's the bg2 character that forgot his sword (in Candlekeep), that's a bad omen. And I'd recommend Newcaste since at least they have a premier league team, even go to Uefa-cup i believe. But all i know for the rest is that it's an old industry city, doesn't sound too appealing to me.

But hey, i'm just rambling.

Well being at a uni in england and knowing someone from some of the unis you just mentioned i reckon i can help you out. The only thing i know about Archeology though is that it's probably pretty damn boring, but that's your choice...
We'll start with York, being i'm from there, well it's a very good uni with a decent reputation, however the night life is York is dire, but you seem like an uber geek so that probably won't bother you.
Sheffield is a good uni, got a few mates there, they seem to enjoy it. Night life is good, uni's not too bad, probably a good choice.
Newcastle is the uni where about 50% of my old school go to, purely because it's so close to York. The uni is good, the night life is awesome, but you do have to watch out for Geordie's...
Cardiff isn't too great, basically just cos it's in Wales.
Hull, Exeter are both utterly poor, and both used to be Polytechnic's not Uni's, so a hell of a lot of stupid people go there. But being you are capable of using the internet i reckon you'd be cleverer than most of the others who go there...
Lampeter is so bad i've never even heard of it, probably an old Polytechnic as well, and they are to be avoided like the plague

Oh yeah, don't go to Scarborough cos it's shit and Pev and Mole live there
And Imperial (the purely science part of University Of London), where i'm at, is full of geeks so you'd fit in, but it is incredibly hard to get into, but i reckon if they even do Archeology here, it'll be a better course than every other uni you mentioned

lol thanks fran i couldn't comment on most of the uni's but Hull is... well... ok. I'm actually at Hull uni, just the scarborough campus. But i know what a craphole Hull is lol.

Well thanks for the info Fran. I'm doing archaeology cos I'm good at it and it's multidisciplinary since i seem to have a knack of doing well in most subjects. Anyway some of the archaeology is interesting like prehistoric religion with druidic sacrifices and the Neolithic practice of leaving bodies out for scavengers to eat. My point of view though. Lampeter is a small Welsh university famous for the arts and archaeology. Nightlife would be nice to know about though. Recommendations about everything about these uni's would be good.

I know shit all about unis. Just go for one of the Russell Group.
