Ooh I used to have such great discussions with Sir Vivor about this!
Anyway, the world is warming up both in a natural way as well as by greenshouse gasses. The recent rise of temperature can't be explained only by the world recovering from the mini ice-age in the late middle ages. At least half of global warming is caused by greenhouse gasses.

Yeah i kinda agree with Arathorn, the natural warming of the earth will occur, but we have speeded up that process and will probably cause the atmosphere to get hotter than it would have done naturally. That's the problem 
The Americans just refuse to aknowledge it because they are the worst culprits
