DAMN IT
Ok. Just had to format the damned C drive again. Computer wouldn't boot in anything except safemode. So i go to re-install my windows 98. So i get to that, and it installs ok. But as with the last time i had to install 98, half the hardware i come to install comes up with "please insert the windows 98 disc"#
Hold on brb - MS blast just installed itself

ok that sorted. Now the problem is we are back to square one. Except this time, with 2 xp computers that wont bloody recognise the Router. I'm gunna kick the shit out of these damned computers if things don't start going right. At the moment, I'm downloading all the critical updates etc (44 of them!) just to see if it fixes the problem with the installer for the router.
Basically, thats that you click the install button, it freezes up for a while then nothing.

lol, thanx
Just another thing I wanna run by anyone reading this, my monitor seems to be "quivering" slightly, especially towards the lower right section of the screen. Any ideas? My best guesses are that the CRT is going, or that theres some dust or something affecting the view. It's nothing major, it just plays with your eyes... *goes crazy*
EDIT: Ok, my brain just kicked in. I wanna talk you through it even if you dont care because i thought it was quite clever for me.
Basically, when we installed the router on pev's comp (as in when we got it to work) we noticed it wasn't in the device manager. like. anywhere. That occured to me for some reason. Which lead me to think, ok so how does the computer know that it's installed. I figure, it must be a kind of "on board" detection, and that the routers config allowed it to tell the comp, "I am yours" so to speak. So I though hmmm. If the router is already "installed" on another comp, the settings won't allow the install program to run. so, I hit the reset button on the back, and hey presto lets just hope it works on Pev's comp now.
EDIT #2: Oh yeah. I'm good.

you got anything magnetic in that area? Remove anything if you do (phones are magnetic!). Err...got a degauss button? Try using it. Otherwise, CRT is probably going out. Bad electron gun or something.

dont think so. Removed mobile phone, and Disc Man just incase. could it be my control box for the sounds system? I'll move that at some point and let you know. I tried degauss already (first thought)
Just moved sound system controll over. Still there, moved Lava Lamp away from screen some, still there. ALso took away lamp with broken bulb that coulda been on or off. still there. Hmmm....
I'll give the desktop a good sort out tomorrow and check again. It never used to happen before is whats swaying me towards it being a CRT problem. Thing is the monitor isn't that old. less than a year, prolly about 8 months

If it's still in warranty, I'd send it in. If not, sorry, you're probably SOL. Any cheap monitor refurbishing places around there? We have one here where you can get a fairly decent 17" for ~$150.

if you think 17" is big, then you should see a 21" monitor.
