Post Hijack This???
Ok, last night i came to look for halo secrets online, and the net wouldn't work. This morning, still no worky. Get home from work, talk to caz, her comp (also no worky) has got this file on it called "Hijack This" (suspicion??) anyway, i used Mcaffe quick clean (cuz i dont got and cant afford a virus protector) and i must have got whatever it is thats killing my comp, because as you see, i am now online. Anyideas what this file is, or if not what caused my connection to die? (p.s. - i'll post back in a min, connected through modem, not router-modem lol)

EDIT: A quick google search says Hijack This, is a spywear monitor?

Hijack This is a spyware monitor for people who know what they are doing. You can see a lot of internet settings so you can change things back when they are changed by spyware. But it shows all settings, and doesn't know what's the right setting, so that's why it's for people who know what they're doing.

How did you get it when you don't know what it is?

I didn't get it, Pev did, she said she didn't download it, and doesn't know what it is. Oddness.

Done it. If either comp had the virus that was causing it it was mine, because i found a virus on mine using a free copy of McAffe that Pev got with Computer Shopper. But removing that still didn't fix it, had to reset and re-install the router. Not sure what the virus was. *just looked it up* it was "JS/Seeker.gen.h"

Mole mate, these are the Security softwares that i use for my computer. I suggest you download them, they are free anyhoo.

Firewall= Zone Alarm (also found on most Cover CD's)
Antivirus= AVG Antivirus (Free to download)
Anti-SpyWare= Ad Aware.

Go do some googling!

Zone Alarm works crappy with p2p programs, I suggest you use Sygate or Kerio

well we have ad aware anyway, i personally wont bother with a firewall since all the ones i've tried have been too much hassle for what they're worth, don't know about mole, and i've now got McAfee on my comp, which I know a lot of people don't like but i've never had problems with. So i'll stick with that and now the comp is sorted out we should be ok.

A firewall isn't that much hassle, for Sygate you just need get a pop up when a program tries to contact the internet, and you can let Sygate remember the answer, so you'll get that once for every program.
