Post Mr Moles new PC
Hello there! Right, as my other thread has destroyed my brain, I've decided to start putting together a new PC.

This will have to be done is stages due to cost, but figured I'd run it by you guys...

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Fcr2Bm

Should take you to my proposed set up.

Really, I'm looking for issues with compatibility and also places where I can get near same results for less £££.

I'm thinking about importing this to save money, but not sure how the tax works...

all advice received with thanks

Holy crap. I saw the i7 and though, that's too much processor... then realized you had 2 gtx 970s in SLI. Jeez man. A few notes...

32GB of RAM? Makes my 18GB seem paltry. May be overkill though. If you want to cut your cost, I'd got with 2x 8GB sticks. 16GB is plenty unless you're doing some really crazy video editing or something. And if you decide to get 2 more 8GB sticks later, you can.

Storage... I know you guys have VAT, which makes things really complicated, but I'd recommend sitting on Newegg and watching for SSD prices. They regularly have discounted specials where you pay $90 for ~250GB SSDs. Currently they have an Intel 480GB SSD for $200, which is really really good (especially for an Intel drive). However... VAT... that may fuck that up.

Overclocking... you plan on overclocking the CPU? If not, the 3rd party fan may not be necessary.

One last thing... low end Broadwell is rolling out now, the stuff for tablets and crap. The desktop Broadwell parts are coming... some day. I've been waiting for them for over a year now. :/ If you decide to wait, Broadwell shrinks the die size from 22nm to 14nm... means cooler, faster parts. Is it worth waiting? Beats me. There's no solid information out there, but there's a good chance Broadwell will require a new chipset on the motherboard, so upgrading the CPU later isn't really an option unless you want to upgrade the motherboard too.

There are other new technologies coming down the pipe too, like m.2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2) and USB 3.1. So beware.

Massive overkill for pretty much anything.

Indeed, I've gone overkill, but the overkill was my intention so long as it's all compatible...

It's all ordered now. I was going to only order the 16gb of RAM as you suggested Satis, but then I thought about video editing which I would love to get back in to. Also, I was going to go i5, until I wanted to SLi.

Can't wait to game on this thing!

I'm not to worried about USB 3.1, though I will start looking in to this broadwell thing. Recommended sources?

I usually just watch Tom's Hardware. Something big like a new CPU release will be on there as soon as the NDA gets lifted. I wouldn't worry about it until probably February at the earliest. Though you never know... I get surprised all the time lately. :/

Oh, good idea. Coat your pc in carpet so it doesn't get too cold. Or is that cat fur?
