so much for the technical mumbojumbo :P

On a more serious note: i believe it's the fan of my power supply that making the kinda grinding noises. Any pointers on what to do now?

I was thinking about replacing the fan, not sure if i will find an identical or what other fans are out there that can replace it. It's a 120mm Yate Loon D12SM-12 Case Fan for what's worth it. Downside of my plan that i'm seeing at this point is that the fan seems soldered, not sure if another fan will be easy to put it.
I actually openend up my pc box, and took out the power supply, that was a first. :D

I had an old pc here as well, but it has a much smaller fan, so that plan didn't work either. Switching both power supplies probably isn't a good idea either (cooling-wise).

I'm open for suggestions. Keep in mind that i'm not much of a tech-guy though.

For my plan B:

anyone can tell me if i can replace my current power supply with the other?

current: FSP 350-60EMDN (this one)

similar i find online but not exactly the same: FSP 350-60APN

http://www.conrad.be/ce/nl/product/9752 ... Detail=005

or the FSP 350-GHC

Maybe Satis can make more from this:

Wow, the prices on that webshop are just awful.

There should be some cheaper variants of 400W+ by known manufacturers like Corsair or Chieftect. I'm currently using Modecom 500ish and its nice and quiet. You shouldnt pay above 25€ for a 400w psu.

Well i just tried finding some to compare, i'll probably check the local computer shops around here on monday and i'm going to check with our IT guy at school if he hasn't a spare psu or fan lying around. He always has tons of materials it seems, 120 mm fan should be enough to see if that's the only problem.

Btw if i'm going from 350 W to 400 W, are there things i should consider (dunno, more heating of other things? or i imagine they only take what they need)

Nah. If i am not mistaken then the heat output of a psu depends on the build quality of the psu and how much power other components draw. Considering you have a 350w psu then the other components are probably antique anyway so you could build a small nuclear power plant in that chassis and you wouldn't see a heat level increase. I would go as far as to say that if you change the psu for a new one, the new fan will probably suck more air out of the chassis and leave it in fact cooler than before. Once you pry that case open, use a vacuum cleaner to clean it good. And compressed air for vents and passive cooling systems.
