Post New Speaker time
Right, In the coming months my pay should be significantly higher than recently. This doesn't make me mega rich or anything - but I want to start saving for a decent speaker system for my PC. The room is approximately 14ft accross and 16ft long (4.26 x4.87 metres), but basically whenever we have a party we usually have the main room for lighter/random music, the kitchen for a talking area and my bedroom for the metal heads.

So in short, I need a system with a good bit of punch - which means I'd rather have a good 5.1 surround sound, than a mediocre 7.1 system.

I guess the best way I can describe it, is I need it to be loud enough that you can't hear each other talk, with a nice bass that doesn't completely kill off the sound. Price isn't really an issue, as I'm gonna be saving up for it - but as the system will likely be subject to fools with drinks, I don't need to go over kill on the price. The set I have now cost me £40 ten years ago, and it's great quality - but the speakers have finally started to die.

I'm open to all suggestions :)

p.s. my Mobo doesn't have optical audio, so if it requires optical audio it'd be better if it has a sound card with it. I don't really know where to start, I'm not sure what Wattage this system is...

EDIT: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-4000P-Hom ... B000185AOM

That's my system (or very very very similar) and it's 22w. So I guess anything a bit higher [Better, not sure if higher or lower is better in speakers] than that... *Starts digging* I don't even know what kind of brands are good!

This seems quite good, reasonably priced - but does the fact it's tailored for gaming mean it won't give out optimum music performance? *bleh*

These seem nice too

And then there's this... http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers- ... ystem-Z906

Those all seem like decent options. A few questions for you.

Do you have onboard audio, or a separate sound card? If you want the best possible sound, I'd recommend picking up a separate sound card. You can get decent ones for like $30 that'll blow away onboard audio. It would suck to spend $400 or more on a speaker system that sounds like crap because your onboard audio blows.

Your audio should have a digital out. Assuming it does, your speakers you buy should support digital as well. Of the speakers you posted, only the Z906 supports a digital input. Having digital audio may not be that important to you, in which case ignore me and you'll save a bunch of cash. But for the highest quality sound, I'd recommend it.

Ok sweet, I'll save up the extra cash to get the nicer kit, and I will invest in a sound card. My current set up is all on board.

Logitech mice have always done me well so hopefully the same is true of the speakers! :)

I'm a razer guy for mice and keyboards, but I'm weird like that. :P Post back once you get your system assembled and let us know how it turns out. I just use headphones personally, but the lure of a nice speaker system is always there.
