If you have troubles removing it, check the software forum of games.telenet.be (then go to forum, software).
They have a very good explanation how to get rid of it. It's probably in dutch, but english somewhere too. Or ask rinox to translate :P , i'm going over to my gf so no time for you guys.

No troubles here btw (yet)

you can get a removal tool here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... .list.html

no, I didn't get it. Ah...just read up on it. Apparently it exploits a vulnerability in dcom rpc on windows 2000 and XP. Windows NT and 2003 are vulnerable but won't be infected because the worm isn't coded for them. I should be safe, since my router is set to reject incoming connection requests. :P

The thing I was reading suggested to block TCP port 4444 with a firewall, as well as TCP 135 and UDP 69. For anyone interested:

yeah, they have the patch that windows needs in order to avoid the bug there, i'd seriously recomend getting it, because if you get the virus, unless you are lucky, you cant get it.

speaking of trojans, do they still occur? I mean, I havent heard about one for a while.

And no, Blaster/lovsan sends itself to your comp through an open port, it seems to be a case of being online at the wrong time. Basically, at the same time as some one else with the virus.

yea, it takes advantage in a security hole. No email involved.

Yes, trojans still exist. Since most trojans aren't really viral (ie, they don't spread on their own) it doesn't get reported on much. Usually someone'll email a trojan to people, or infect a file and give it for download or whatever. Then they'll go scan different chunks of the internet looking for an infected server. In fact, you don't even need to try and infect someone most of the time... just scan around and you'll find someone, somewhere that's got the trojan. Then take over their computer.

Personally, believe it or not, I have ethics, so I've never done this. I think it's pretty much totally wrong to screw with someone's system. However, I've had friends that've done it.
