If you want one of these, you'd better have $1,108 sitting around.

Probably never. Downloading is the future, Blu-ray made sure of that.

I dunno Peltz, I still see a future for USB-carried games. Not a long future, but hey. Digital download is the future but don't forget that we're all -compared to the mainstream market- specialised users. Many people still don't know where to go to buy a game outside of a store. And then there's the principle of people preferring to actually physically hold a game/newspaper/book than purchasing it online...yeah, think it might be a while before we're fully digitalised. :)

Well in that case I see it rather deployed on the SD cards (the ones used in cameras and such).

Yea, SD cards are probably a better choice. Smaller, ubiquitous and relatively inexpensive. do they make read-only SD cards? The only problem would be losing them... but for a game studio, that's not really a problem, just for the user.

The problem with SD cards is that alot of people don't have an SD card slot, wheras everyone has a USB slot. Meh. Either way, i'd be happy to move away from slow-ass CD's / DVD's / spinny things that scratch and you have to fumble into a fragile cup holder.
