Literally to bake a graphics card in the oven. Used as a last resort to fix broken soldering points on a graphics card that has no warranty and is about to depart into the afterlife or reincarnate as a paperclip.

haha, that's pretty cool. I certainly never heard of this method of saving a graphics card. Though I have heard of putting a hard drive in the freezer to get it working long enough to copy data off of it.

Note on the bake method, be sure to remove the plastic parts from the card. 200C will not be gentle on them

heh...hey, that makes you wonder, who first thought of digging up a freakin' potato and boiling it? I mean, some things our ancient forebears did make sense (kill animal, eat it, pick berry, eat it) but some things are just bizarre. Then again, starvation is the mother of invention, eh?

Or, in the modern age, your computer crapping out on you may cause you to try some really bizarre shit to fix it.

If your card is toast anyway, why not try it? Humans are inventive enough anyway.

I remember back in the day with my Atari 2600... after awhile the little joysticks would stop working. You'd have to really jam it into a corner or whatever to get it to register, and eventually even that wouldn't work.

The answer was to take it apart and use a pencil on the contacts. the problem was the contacts were pretty thin copper or whatever, so after awhile they would rub off and you'd no longer get a current. By rubbing a pencil, graphite would take the place of copper and it would work again (for awhile).
