Yes, processor is worth upgrading, and you can't have enough ram, but 256 will usually do.

The best price/quality processor is an Athlon XP 2600+ . Over here it's about 120€, fair price imho. If it'sa monster processor you want get a pentium4 3ghz, 510€ LOL.

Athlon XP 2600+ it is.

(€= slightly more worth than USD, in case you wanna compare)

P.S. ram is relatively cheap, load up on it as much as you can

chances are you'll need a new motherboard to support the processor natively (though an xp 2600+ WILL work in that motherboard, you'll just need to set BIOS values manually). However, the motherboard probably doesn't support DDR RAM, so you may want a new motherboard for that.

I paid about $140 for my motherboard, it's a Asus A7N8X Deluxe with the Nforce2 400 chipset. Highest performing chipset on the market right now. Two nics built in, audio onboard (if you're into that), DDR400 support, dual memory controllers....blah. I sound like a salesman.

I bought 1 gigabyte of pc2700 corsair RAM for about $200. That two 512MB modules. Not too bad, IMO.

You didn't post your video card, though. If you plan on doing some gaming, that's a definite consideration.
