poxy frigging computer (mouse problem)
Ok, heres the low down. i tried to install a secondary mouse. so that when two mice were required that one would then opperate.
I have done this before, but it simply worked plug and play. no messing. So i took several looks at the hardware profiles.
There were like three conflicts on there, but it was all working, so i ignored them.
Then i installed the secondary mouse, but it just opperated the main mouse aswell (so we could have cool mouse wars. i even had three of them at it at one point)
but still nothing. I noticed that com 1 (where the second mouse was installed, was conflicting with another com port. and so uninstalled it, and re installed it. now my USB mouse doesn't work, nor my PS2 OR Serial :S help!

you have a serial mouse? What a freak. I've done mousewars with a USB and PS2 mouse...no problemo here.
blech. What O/S? I'd start with the normal mouse...just unplug everything except that mouse, check device manager for conflicts, and then go to 'add new hardware' and manually install generic mouse drivers. That should get the PS/2 one working. Then onward to the USB. Meh...I don't see why you want 2 mice. Only reason I had 2 was because linux didn't like my USB mouse, and I had a dual-boot system.

Well, the reason is because i'm still a fan of the old settlers 2, in which you can play 2 player on one screem. i have settlers 4, but my moniter doesn't support high enough graphics (its some old school monitor, as in from a school)
So untill then its settlers 2, and i want to play the two player again.
I would do that, but the computer is not detecting any mouse what so ever... :S

Ok, i fixed it. I tried to install my PS2 mouse using some logitech driver, despite the fact that it is Chic. which must have like... kciked windows in the butt and said, oi! look! theres like a whole host of Input ports wanting to be used and you aren't using them! cuz when it restarted my comp it suddenly came up "new hardware device found : com port, building driver database" and all that nasty crap. then all of a sudden my USB mouse was working two *pats optical mouse*
But my ps2 mouse is knackered (hense the purchase of a usb mouse) so now i just gotta get my serial port mouse to start working as a secondary mouse, not a primary one :S
EDIT : that computer is on 98

I think i like the shoot it one best. any way, it's at least got some kind of mouse thing going on now... so i'll leave it at that for the time being, i should be getting a new monitor soon anyway, so i'll leave it till after i have that up and running.

Exams sucked big time. failed no doubt.
And the monitor works fine! its just mega old and mega crap and only supports 800X600 resolution so i want a new one (which didn't arrive today)

good job. *cough* Please move any further 'exam' discussions to open topic, eh?
Anyway... why not buy a new monitor? I can get a 15" monitor for about $70 here, and a 17" for about $140. And they can go higher than 800x600.

dude, I have no clue what you did to Windows. It's definetely not working right any more. Honestly, I'd probably try reinstalling the USB drivers, maybe the chipset drivers for the hell of it. If that didn't work, I'd nose around a bit in 'add new hardware' and try to force an install. Failing that, I'd just nuke Windows and start over. After 2-3 hours futzing with something that should be easy like that, I get pissed and start killing.
deltree progra~1
deltree windows
reinstall
