NIC
Are ethernet controllers and NICs the same thing? I'm trying to restablish my home network, and the NIC was recognized. However there is a suspicious ethernet controller in the device manager...

yes, NIC and ethernet controller are the same thing.
Network Interface Card, FYI.
I've never seen device manager call a NIC a NIC. Always "ethernet controller" if the drivers weren't installed, and then a specific brand/model if they are.
