Derf, did you still need help with that thing you posted at the beginning of the thread? I've completed that quest now.

oh....ok. I was able to lockpick it. Do you have any alteration magic ability? You could try some open locks spells, perhaps. I learned one that'll open simple locks...since I can't seem to find anyone to supply me with lockpicks that should be of major assistance.

Call me stupid, but i manage to unlock Average locks with about 20 autoattempts. Im sure im using the lockpicks wrong manuallybecause the little rod things come straight down after i poke them in that case. How do you lockpick?

Yes, as youve guessed im not a very thievy character.

Lockpicking is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it:

As you will have noticed, the tumblers sometimes fall back slow and sometimes fall back rapidly...they also do that in the opposite direction (ie when you push a tumbler up). So just be patient and have a steady hand and see which tumblers go up slowly...then l-click to hold them in place.

I started out with like 14 security, and I'm up to 30 now just by doing it...so it's doable. I'm sure high-level alteration magic and/or artifacts will be a lot easier than security to use tho. :) (even tho there's barely a penalty for failing at high lockpick levels so that becomes easy peasey too)
