Post Oblivion character choices
With the game clearly nearing, I was wondering about everyone's character choices. I was bored so I started thinking of a char for myself, and I think I came up with one: The Crack Junk.

Basically I'm gonna go my usual insane style with

-hand-to-hand, acrobatics, athletics: them crack junks don't have weapons but pack some furious punch!
-alchemy: to cook up my dope!)
-mysticism: i just like mysticism :P
-mercantile: A brother needs skillz to pawn loot for dope
-light armor: it falls under Speed like Acrobatics and Athleticism, so good for overall char quality (heavy armor is endurance, don't have any other endurance skill)

Major stats are Speed and Intelligence and to an extent Personality.

So, that's my 7 major skills. :) And I'm also gonna boost Luck as much as I can, hehe. I can't wait to roam the land killing bare-handed, doping and looting.

of course, the list is open to changes and i'm not final on race and birthsign yet.

Check your own chars here

http://elderscrolls.blogspot.com/2005/10/skills.html

Remember, you need 7 major skills, all the others are minor skills. It's different from Morrowind and Daggerfall.

EDIT: I'm probably gonna go with a Khajit...

Quote:
Khajiit of all breeds have a weakness for sweets, especially the drug known as skooma. Many Khajiit disdain weapons in favor of their natural claws.

heh i'll probably remake my Nord fighter first, a good girl called Caza (blonde of course) who's main skills will be Blade, Armourer, Heavy Armour, Speechcraft, Mercantile, Acrobatics and Marksman methinks

Then I'll probably make my evil theiving mage who'll be a Khajit called Lih who specialises in Sneaking, Security, Restoration, Destruction, Alteration, Mysticism and Conjuration.

And after that will probably come a multitude of other random characters, most likely one who can do everything themselves (alchemy, armourer, restoration etc)

Good point! It is indeed time to think about this.

For me, there is only one way to play - An Imperial Crusader! - This time, i want to emphasise a bit more on Speed, because in morrowind, i noticed that to be a proper Crusader, you need to get from A to B pretty quickly. Speed will have to definately be one of my majors. I will have to think about whether i want to drop Heavy Armour too for Light Armour. But then this wont be too great for a crusader. I need to think it out.

I don't think you'd really need speed...as a crusader, I assume you are of some standing, and hence you should have a horse. An armored one! (yes, that's in but you prolly knew that)

A serious heavily armored dude on a sexy horse...that beats sprinting around in light armor. That's more my Crack Junk's style. :P

Ah yes, but with the horse not being able to jump, i will have to dismount to explore those hard-to-get places. Thus, a horse might slow me down. To be honest, im probably hoping for a more Ranger-like character. Or maybe a crusader/ranger of the sort. Mainly because i like kicking ass like the crusader does, but i also like losing myself totally for hours just exploring and looking at everything from all the small things on the floor to the stars in the sky.

What i don't really dig too much is Stealth, Marksmanship and Destruction. I like to get stuck right in there. No pansying about.

I will probably create a custom class as a result, something like this:

- Star Sign: The Steed

- Blade
- Block
- Athletics
- Light Armour
- Alteration
- Speechcraft
- Mercantile

- Major Attributes: Strength, Endurance.

With this i should be able to explore and crusade at a fairly good pace, while still having skills that allow me to be very independent.

I thought the horses could jump. In the 360 article I read they were saying how they tried to jump a gorge with their horse, but it was tired from running and ended up drowning in the river below instead of making it.

I'm not sure about it. I heard so many things and read so many previews that my mind's gonna explode. :(

But Derf, your char looks more like a Blade (the organization) than an Imperial Crusader man...fast, versatile, deadly and streetwise: an Imperial spy, a Blade. Kinda like Caius Cosades, but without the Skooma habit. :P

(yeah yeah; I know it's supposedly part of his cover to be a skooma dopehead...but I still think he's just an old doper!)

In that case, i guess it must be more along the lines of: Imperial Ranger. :)

Now that just sounds like a title for a TV show

Xena: Warrior Princess
Derf: Imperial Ranger (and part-time warrior princess)

I've ALWAYS loved the idea of Rangers, ever since Baldurs Gate II. They kinda reflected most my own personality, but i couldn't help but notice how useless they actually were in the game world.

I played in Morrowind as an Imperial Crusader, because in essence, i felt very much at home with the idea of exploring the lands at pure random, killing any evil i encountered and liberating their treasures for my own purposes. The problem was that (aesthetically) i didn't really like lumbering around in heavy-armour and wielding a two-handed sword all the time.

Maybe i'm more worried about the "image" thing, but i do tend to worry alot about power-gaming (adopting in sacrificial manner, statistically advantageous equipments and stats).

So i guess my ideal Oblivion character would be somewhere in-between. I love the Ranger in that he is versatile yet independent, but i don't like too much of that tree-hugging fetish that they all suffer from. On the other side, i like the Crusader - sworn to do good and nothing but through gloryful conquest.

Obviously, this is The Imperial Ranger. (Ox, refrain!)

Considering what we know of the stats and skills of Oblivion characters, is it even possible to create such a fusion of character, while remaining safely in power-gaming territory?

Likely Choice:

Class: Imperial Ranger
Name: Arlas
Race: Imperial
Combat Type: Combat
Weapon Type: 2 Handed Sword
Birthsign: The Steed
Attributes: Strength, Endurance
Skills: Blade, Block, Light Armor, Speechcraft, Athletics, Alteration, Marksman

I think im gonna go for either a warlock style or druid style :D (my main in WoW is druid and alt is lock hence the choice)

Lets see hmm...

Warlock:

1. Destruction - No self-respecting warlock leaves home without it.
2. Conjuration - Got to have a minion, melee fight is considered dirty by any caster class except druid.
3. Mysticism - Binding souls'n'shit, warlock stuff.
4. Alteration - After all the bloody work, someones got to haul the fat loot home.
5. Speechcraft - Messing with ones mind.
6. Athletics - Matrix style.
7. Acrobatics or alchemy - not sure.

Druid:

1. Restoration - Go figure :D
2. Alchemy - Only druids beat rangers in treehugging.
3. Athletics - Druids are more agile than most other caster classes
4. Light Armor - In every game i have played druids dont fight nekked.
5. Blunt weapons - Not sure where it started but druids dont use blades.
6. Sneak - Having spent countless days in the woods learning to move silently and jada jada jada.
7. Speechcraft or block - not sure.

Not so much a Druid thing as it is a Cleric thing. I think it comes from D&D clerical-bible-bashing lore whereby a Cleric would find it against his belief to shed blood. (A warhammer probably tends to cause less bleeding than a katana).
