First reviews are rolling in and they're looking good. :) The basic gist seems to be that the engine is showing its age and that some technical stuff could/should still be patched, and that the companion system is still pretty meh (although improved), but that on the other hand the dialogue is fantastic, the RPG elements deeper, the world more interesting, the hardcore mode a great addition and that it's still BIG. Other new stuff like better crafting, betting tables with different games at the casinos, skill-based dialogue checks etc also are mentioned.

I'm buying it now. :)

It's a brilliant decision, and one that fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the game, forcing you to fully engage with its radiation-scorched landscape. Before, food and water were simply optional health pick-me-ups. Now they form a balancing act, as you weigh up the benefits of curing dehydration sickness with the radiation poisoning you'll get from slurping out of a manky old sink. It's also great to see an extra layer of difficulty that doesn't rely on simply making your enemies bulletproof (yes, Mass Effect, that means you) but instead forces you to play smarter, rather than harder.

Well they didn't slam it, they said they're having fun but that there were technical issues (like I said above). As long as my PC doesn't lock up or crashes every minute I can live with that if the game is fun.

Anyway, we'll see I suppose. I bought it already. :)

Already two patches released for the PC version. :roll: Still, they're communicating very openly about it, which is refreshing. Not that I'd expect Obsidian to do anything else than care a lot about New Vegas given how many former Black Isle peeps they have aboard (almost all of them, actually).

RPS has also published a review slagging off the game, which was met with an almost record-breaking response of people who couldn't believe their ears as they enjoyed the game a lot. It was a bizarre turnaround from the usual situation: reviewer praises game, comments thread hates on game + reviewer.

Anyway, given that the vast majority of reviews is very postive and most (even critical) people I've heard like it, I'm not too worried except for the bugs.

Haha, yeah. I was intrigued by all the positive comments. The overall sentiment is that it's better than FO3, which is good cos I heavily disliked FO3.

But anyway, I kinda need a single player game right now. Civ IV is crashing on me, which outlines the general problem with releasing games in basic form, or generally incomplete. I don't think it's healthy for developers to release games prematurely, hoping that modders will add real meat to the title and therefore USE them to drive sales. It's unhealthy because large mods are typically unstable, unpolished and unsupported.

Please note that Derf is buying Fallout: New Vegas, a buggy game, in order to get away from Civ V because of the bugs. The logic is... compelling.

So Ox, have you started playing yet or what? I was kinda holding out to see what you thought, but you've been holding out like an Israeli whore during Yom Kippur.
