High luck makes a huge difference for chance games (obviously), with 8 or more you can easily milk a casino for several thousands of bottlecaps before being booted out...especially on blackjack.

It also makes a difference for finding random stuff (bottlecaps, ammo), influences dialogue choices/options, skill checks, critical chance, and so forth. It's a skill that you rarely actively notice but influences just about everything. :)

Post Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Oh dear. Then ending was just.... [insert scathing negative ramble here].

I'll have to withdraw my previous statement of wanting to award :jade: :jade: :jade: for this. Now I will have to withdraw my previous rating of :jade: :jade: and settle with a single :jade: out of 5.

It was just horse shit lol. So there I am, bumbling along the entire main quest, not really having enough information on what the fuck is going on, let alone what decisions to make and understand the stupid implications on other gang influence, let alone know what's coming next. I go to Yes Man, which i've uploaded as a replacement to Mr. House (honestly didn't see an alternative option) and we activated the robots to fight for me at Hoover Dam (against the Legion AND NCR - to my dismay, I wanted to side with the NCR, but again had no diea how to do this).

Anyway, I move from the Lucky 38 Penthouse from dialogue to Hoover Dam and lose my companions (bug). So I have to reload and fuck around with positioning the companions at hoover dam and tell them to wait for me. Then as I go to Hoover dam, i am confronted by Great Khan's fighting, when i went to great lengths to FULLY complete the quest to convince them not to fight. Then I encounter Legion troops spawning randomly infront and behind of me, as if to pose a certain artificial difficulty for me since it's the last quest. Not only that, they're buffed to fuck. Their weapon and fighting skills are mega buffed and it now takes 4-5 headshots to kill 1 (and that's with my Headshot mod installed).

I grind through, only to find that as I enter a certain building NEEDED for the completion of the quest, I lose my companions again. I exit, but they're nowhere to be found.

I'm sorry, fuck that shit. The game before this was pretty interesting. Still pretty empty like the FO3, but more colored, accentuated and styled. I was mildly enjoying it. But i'm not putting up with this shit. Crappy scripted spawns, ultra-buffed end game grunts, missing companion bugs. All while I am unable to choose a path for the main quest and "bumbling" along.

What an ultra fail.

Haha, a return to form eh? ;)

The bug with the companions is obviously shit, and I'm not sure what happened with the Khans. But as for not knowing what was going on: I'm not sure that's the game's fault, tbh. I sided with the NCR and it was all fairly obvious for me what I had to do and what the implications of my actions were. So I'm not really sure how that went wrong for you. And while you won't hear me say the end fight was the best I ever did (the indoor sections can be pretty lame, as you said), the fact that I was able to TALK my way through the final showdown made up for a lot for me.

I'm interested how Caesar's Legion is fleshed out btw, quest-wise. The NCR had a lengthy series of (direct and indirect) quests that lead to siding with them at the end, and I'm sure the Legion must have a similar quest tree. I'll find out soon enough I suppose!

I am half tempted to play again as a brute moron tank. Not taking any shit from anyone. Specialise in Melee weapons and big guns. Ballistic fists pwn hard. 1-2 punches take down someone who would normally need 3-4 headshots to kill, and I don't even have any melee or strength of note!

hehe, sounds like Derf's next character's going to be like mine. I'll be playing a extremely strong, extremely stupid moron with no luck. I figure I'll pour all the points into strength and endurance. I also plan on using the bumper sword you find in Helios 1 as my main weapon. And, of course, I'll be evil as hell.

Anyway, found this on a terminal in Helios 1. Freaking awesome.

"Can I Tell Him?" A Poseidon Energy Publication for New Employees

As a member of the Poseidon Family, it will be natural for you to become enthusiastic about the incredible endeavors you'll be undertaking with us, and to want to tell others. But just a second there, my good man! Let's take a minute to consider what could happen if company information fell into the wrong hands, and whose hands those might be.

"Can I tell my wife?" Well, let's say you do. You tell er not to tell anyone. Your bond is sacred. But a woman's idle tongue is the devil's plaything. No sooner do you leave for work the next day than she's on the phone telling her best friend Candy. Then Candy tell Gertie, Gertie tells Maxine, Maxine tells Lulu, and while Lulu is telling Doris, a Chinese agent posing as an American operator listens in, and the next thing she's on the line with the Forbidden City, singing like a treasonous canary. The following day you and your wife are bound in shackles and China is sitting at the controls of our entire arsenal.

"Can I tell my children?" What father wouldn't want his kids to look up to him? Don't be that father. One day at school, Ivan Bullykov will get more than lunch money out of your kids. He'll have national secrets! And while they're parading him through Red Square as a national hero, your children will be working in forced labor camps, right next to you and your beautiful young wife, who's now wrinkled and homely since the communists have banned makeup because it express individuality.

"Can I tell my drinking buddies?" Surely if there's somewhere safe a man can place his trust, it is with his other male friends. But how much do you really know about them? Are they friends... or *comrades*? Don't be too sure. Even the most transparent window can hide secrets when it's lined with Iron Curtains.

Always remember: you are a member of two families now. And you have obligations to both. But your obligation to the Poseidon Family is greater, because while your children may misbehave and your friends may change and your wife may nag and cheat on you, Poseidon Energy will always be paying fro and protecting your way of life. Don't tell anybody anything about the projects conducted at Poseidon Energy. when pressed, tell them that your job is repetitive and not worth discussing, but the Company is nurturing and gives good benefits and is always looking for new talent.

That was a lot to type. :(

But it was worth it to read. It's a shame I didn't really like Fallout 3, there's a lot of fun material, but the game simply didn't feel right to me.

Hehehe, I read that too. Was really cool. There are a lot of those things around in the world, some sad, some hilarious, some insane. The writing really is top-notch for a AAA title. How'd you type that over anyway? Alt-tab? Second PC? Can't imagine there's a copy-paste button in NV. :D

I completed the game with my first character. I've started a second one now that's a bit of a psycho, with 1 int, 1 luck, 10 strength and 10 endurance. I can't recall much more in the way of specifics at this point. I'll probably screenshot it. I plan on being an evil bastard this time around. I'll also specialize in hand to hand combat and sneak. Sneak up on bastards and break them in half.

Some more screenies from my previous game.

Post Re: Fallout: New Vegas
mmmm-k... my endgame (spoilers galore)

I, of course, destroyed the Legion camp at the end, winning the day for the NCR.

I'd gotten the Boomer's cooperation, so their B-29 blew the shit out of enemy forces.
I convinced the brotherhood to fight on our side, rather than doing what NCR wanted and killing them all. They assisted in the final battle as well.
I destroyed Eutopetha.
I helped Jacobstown discover a cure for nightkin insanity.
The Great Khans left Nevaga for Wyoming, where they founded a large empire
I took the heads of all the Fiends' leaders, which ended up in their group dissolving
I destroyed the powder gangers at the prison, which became a deserted ruin.
I'd partially helped the powder gangers in vault..22?... so they ended up being a scourge on the NCR
E-de beeped at me.
The brotherhood chick moved on to better things, separate from the brotherhood.
The caravan chick (forgot her name) got drunk, tried to have sex with me, ended up in the wrong room and had sex with some NCR trooper instead, then disappeared.
Raul changed his name and moved on.
The Kings kept control of Eastside from the NCR.
The fellowship was kicked out of the old mormon fort by the NCR

I think that's all the stuff that happened during the credits, and describes most of what I did. I destroyed Mr. House, who I thought was a computer, but oh well. I killed off pretty much everyone in the white glove society. I helped overthrow the Gemorrah guys. The Kings love me.... I dunno, did I miss anything?

btw, having unarmed be your only fighting specialty, even with 10 strength, is really, really hard. I do squat shit for damage. The best I can say is that my boxing gloves will knock everything out if I punch them a few times... I can then beat them to death at my leisure. i've switched to using the 9mm most of the time... it does WAY more damage than my fists.

Post Re: Fallout: New Vegas
So, I'm still being evil in the wasteland. :) Slashing, dicing, punching, blowing shit up...and just be an allround asshole. :P I've mostly been working for the legion for now, and while the legion main camp (Fortification Hill) itself is a bit devoid of things to do, the questlines and the backstory of the legion is definitely on the same level as that of the NCR or other factions. And while Caesar is kind of a bastard, he's not completely chaotic evil crazy or anything. What he says makes a lot of sense, to some degree.

It's cool to see how the storylines come together again now I'm watching most of it from a different angle. Funnily enough, since I did some things that (inadvertently) made me appreciated to some extent by the NCR, they trust me enough to do shit for them at a fairly confidential level, giving me the opportunity to fuck up and sabotage a lot of their stuff. :)

Also Satis, while unarmed is a bitch early on, once you have a power fist or even spiked brass knuckles you can deal massive damage to most mobs. Nothing like punching someone's head clean off with a power fist. :P

(I messed up Veronica's NPC quest or even the chance to take her along...I was being a major dick to her and she dismissed me, now I only get to address her and say "goodbye". Too bad, would have been cool to roam the wasteland as two psycho unarmed bitches :P )

Post Re: Fallout: New Vegas
I stopped playing for awhile, so no news for me. I got kinda burned out after my first run. Once I get tired of X3:tc I'll probably start into New Vegas again.

Lol @ veronica. Did you pick up the trader chick, by any chance? I forget her name, but she's pretty psycho... her quest involves a significant amount of killing. It would mesh pretty well, though she's more into distance weapons.

I think I'll pick up Boone this time, when I start playing again. He seems engagingly evil. I'll also pick up Rex (the cyber dog) instead of E-DE this time, since I finished E-DE's questline anyway... I think. It's hard to be sure on that one.
