Aight, it would appear I didn't see Satis' hamachi message or somehow ignored it (I totally hate that Satis guy!) today. :( I started playing later today and then ended up playing for a looong time. As usual I tried to play a class that is good at tanking, so as an Empire player there were two options: Sith Warrior or Bounty Hunter. I'm not super familiar with the game so I wasn't entirely sure the Bounty Hunter tank specialization would fit my expectations, so I went Sith Warrior instead. :)

I started on Korriban and, long story short, claimed my destiny by killing and betraying a crapload of people at the Sith academy. :P I completed the beginner questline and eventually shipped off-world towards the Empire fleet, and then Dromond Kaas (sp?). I only just arrived there though. I also found the specialist trainer in the fleet and became a Sith Juggernaut. Currently level 11.

It slightly sucks not having played with you guys but I also like the fact that I may not be entirely useless to you now! So instead of you guys wasting time guiding me through trials in the beginner areas I could help your characters instead maybe. ;) Oh, I also got a follower, a twilek called Vette. I think she's an Imperial Agent (never checked really) and I was positively surprised by how much of a punch she packed. The force user characters clearly aren't hidously OP compared to their non-force counterparts, which can only be a good thing.

And Korriban looked cool, and was a little bit of a marvel of design in the sense that everything was closely packed together without feeling cramped. Didn't have any problems with lag except for in the main area of the Imperial Fleet hub, which is saying something given that I was on a US server on a Sunday...I'm on Correlian Run like Satis and Shiny.

How do I add you guys as friends? My character's name is Xonir. Rinox was taken and I couldn't fit Rinox The Terrible in the name slot (goddammit).

Bah, i waited for you all day on steam. I constantly checked if you were online but no, you were off secretly playing the game. Well so was I but i played the Republic Trooper. I went the Vanguard way which is the tank version of the trooper. AND PVE server(corellian run), were you scared Satis, of being owned by some 12 year old :D.

Jeez guys... I figured you'd at least be able to coordinate with each other! But, sadly, no. Shiny and I played our mains... named Shiny and Satis, strangely enough... then created two new jedi characters and played them for awhile. They're up to level 8 or so now.

@Ox, we don't actually have any Empire characters at level 11 or thereabouts. My closest is level 24, not including a level 1 I never really played much. :p We'd still love to play at some point.

@Peltz, what level did you get your Vanguard to, and is it called Peltz? Unfortunately you have to be online to friend someone. :/

So, what'd you guys think of the game? And lol at you both choosing tank characters.

Ya the class choice was a no brainer for me. He's at 11 or 12 not sure, and yes, he is called Peltz.

I'm sorry Peltz, I didn't think to log into Steam (since the game isn't in Steam). :(

I just logged in and tried the "add friend" tool. Satis, Shiny, Peltz...all come up with nothing. Weird.

i'll write more about what I think about the game later, but suffice it to say I think it's great :)

And now for a more detailed report! I'm really digging the game, and I think I've only seen the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Currently at level 12, i've only done the training stuff on Korriban and am currently on Drommond Kaas continuing my apprenticeship as a Sith. :P I haven't grouped with anyone yet other than my Twi'lek personal slave, who I keep on a tight leash by giving her a shock when she gives me lip. Nor do I own a spaceship, and I've only recently found out about other skills (treasure hunting etc).

The art of the game is great, and they got the Kotor-Star Wars vibe just right. I don't know why people were whining about the game looking bad before it came out. Everything is tightly drawn and with a consistent design, and the character faces mostly look great. So is the voice acting (although my dude sounds like more of a pompous nobleman than I would have liked). And the music is spot on. :)

I still have no idea why I can't friend any of you...maybe it's because your main characters are Republic characters and thus can't be added as a friend? Or am I missing something? Maybe tell me what your Empire characters are named. ;)

Also, what classes are your 'main' characters? So if I make a republic character I know what to play to complement them. As for me and Peltz playing tanks...I always play tanks, because I like it and because I know you guys aren't really tank players. ;) (apart from Peltz obviously)

There.

Well, its a funny thing coz Rinox and I cant send tells to each other. A feature disabled for trial players. Not sure why because it makes grouping for flashpoints nearly impossible since all the "area" chats are disabled as well. A trial player can receive and send tells to paying customers :D.

You also can't friend, email, or send tells to the opposite faction. However, you can /say (talk in local area). That's pretty normal for most MMOs.

swtor is currently down for patching, so I'll have to do this by memory, but here's my character list

Republic
--------
lvl 50 - Satis - Gunslinger (dps)
lvl 50 - Shi-Palima - Jedi Sentinel (dps)
lvl 25 - Faustia - Commando (healer)
lvl 8 - Irulan - Jedi Consular (not sure if I'm going to heal or tank yet)

Empire
--------
lvl 24 - Sith Sorcerer (healer) - I forgot his damned name
lvl 1 - D'ro - Imperial Agent

Shiny's got several characters as well, but I'm less familiar with them

Republic
--------
lvl 50 - Shiny - Scoundrel (healer)
lvl 8 - ? - Jedi Knight

Empire
--------
lvl 25 - Drea - Sith Assassin (I think) dps
lvl 24 - Shiner - Sith Marauder (I think) dps

If you guys are gonna pick up this game on a less transient basis, we may need to create a new forum and some stickies with character info.

Yeah, we'll have to see what the price is like for the triallists. I've been reading rumors about people on trial buying game time cards and adding them to their trial account, bypassing the need for buying the actualy game 'copy'. But it seems like thise are just that, rumors, and not actually possible. If it was I would definitely consider buying a month haha!

This not being able to whisper, friend, or email is pretty annoying. No wonder it's hard to find any of you in-game. I'll try to be on Steam tomorrow and Saturday so we can perhaps coordinate where to meet instead, seems like the only sensible way to find each other.

Yea, that's probably best. I've been keeping my Steam client open for the most part. Once we get that, we can coordinate Shiny and I toggling between our characters so you can friend them all. Our Republic side is in a guild too... if you're going to bite on this thing, we'll definitely invite you. The guild is heavy on jedi dps and light on healers and tanks. Assuming you'd be willing to play the good side, of course. :p

I dont see myself picking this up. There are a number of reasons:

1. My officer training starts in a week from now. 4 times 11days, so first block starts at the end of the next week.
2. I'm actually more interested in Gw2.
3. Scheduling a game with you guys is problematic at best. And this game is all about socializing.

I did enjoy my brief stay. The cut-scenes and voice-acting really do help with breaking the MMO feel but it only goes so far. When combat begins, I'm already bored.

To be fair, the combat doesn't feel much more/less boring than WoW or GW1. Just normal MMORPG combat, really.

Post Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Keep in mind your level, as well. By level ~15 you've got a few skills here and there and a very basic idea of how your class plays. By level 50, you have so many skills the two bottom bars are full and you've had to either dispose of some you don't use, or stick them on the left and right bars. Add onto that the stims, adrenals, medpacks, and relics and your combat options have grown significantly. Now that that and multiple it by 8 or 16 for a raid (operation). The end game gets pretty complex.

On the other hand, the basic idea stays pretty solid. If you're ranged, you're standing back and using skills to hurt baddies or help goodies. If you're melee, you're running in an either hurting baddies or pulling aggro. As a melee DPS, though, "stand still and beat on stuff until it dies" doesn't necessarily apply. My sentinel is jumping to and fro pretty regularly putting the beat down on mofos. Even my smuggler moves around... when I take cover, I get to insta-cast my main damaging ability, so I'm constantly getting in and out of cover. Plus I have some shielding skills and such that are very handy when people are taking too much pain.
