Post Fallout (The first one)
So I finally got my games back of a mate yesterday, and with Fallout 3 fast approaching I've decided to try and get through the first two. Starting with fallout 1.

I'm going for a bit of a Chaotic-Good style character, I'll try help out where I can but if someone's in my way I'll take 'em down with the power of projectile based persuasion, rather than speech craft. However, I've got a bit of intellect, so that I don't have to depend on anyone to get my in and out of places etc, anyone I pick up in my eyes is just another gun by my side, or another target so they're not shooting at me.

What I'd like to know from any of you Fallout vets, though, is because I'm not to fussed about getting everything done, just about getting a fairly strong build going that can hold his own etc, are there any places of interest that you know of that I really shouldn't miss out?

Here's my 'profile'

I always pick the 'gifted' trait. It's by far the best one, especially if you have a high INT to counter the loss in skillpoints every level. But anyway, you probably aren't too worried with powergaming at this moment. :)

Make sure you check out The Glow. It's a a very dangerous area (highly radiated) but packs a whole lot of really cool gear. Your Geiger counter will go bananas on the first two levels, so make sure you pack enough Rad-X and Radaway before going.

Also, if you're lucky and stumble upon a special encounter in the wasteland, you can find the best weapon in the game. It's an energy weapon (so you know what to invest points in). Big guns are relatively scarce in F1 and will only feature prominently in the last part of the game. Imho it's better to spend points on small guns and energy weapons.

1 charisma won't be a HUGE problem in F1, but in F2 people will shun you like the plague. Probably want to jack it up there, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Yeah so far the Charisma's ok - I'm only up to Vault 15 though, Not really had to talk my way out of anything :D Except, I convinced the dude in the first town... Sand something? *shrug* That I destroy the Radscorpion nest, when clearly I didn't :D

I forgot how good this game was.

I do have a question though! First Aid! The first few times I played this game, I thought first aid just had an impact on if you used stim packs, I had no idea that you could use it as a skill directly upon yourself/NPC's! Anyway, I fiddled around with it a few times, got a few HP here and there.

Now, the first time after a few goes it said "You've exhausted all you can do in this skill, wait a while and try again". Fair enough, I thought. But later on, it's also thrown at me "You are too tired."

The question is this: Is tiredness actually in the game? For instance, if I don't rest will I not be able to use any skills, even if I don't use them at all, after a certain scale of time? Or is tiredness just representative of I've used up too many skills and gotta rest?

Good question. Afaik first aid (and doctor) are the only skills that can get you 'tired', so don't worry. You don't need to sleep per se, but it is by far the easiest way to regain HP. I also think that you'll be able to use first aid again after resting a couple of hours (if you don't know how to do so, it's in your pip boy...the clock button).

Remember that first aid can't help you recover from crippled limbs and the likes. You'll have to use doctor for those!

And F1 is ok, but shows its age sometimes. Fallout 2 , that's still the BOMB!

Cool man :)

I've just rescued some chick from the raiders by beating the leader in a wrestling match. I nearly killed him, until I realised that I had to end the combat! Anyway, decided to go back there and kill them all, but Ian (the first NPC) just loves getting himself killed! Idiot!
