There are actually a bunch of downloads. I went through teh "download updates" link on the Witcher launcher... there's the 900MB update, then like a 1.2GB language pack or something, and a whole crapload of other stuff like side missions and such. I downloaded it all but when I tried to install it, it wanted me to register my game first.
Once I finish clear sky I'll probably figure out how to get around that. I don't like registering games since I know my personal info will just be used for marketing purposes.

Same here, I never register unless I can help it.
Downloaded the patch last night, I haven't done the language pack yet, 1.2 freaking gigs! They are making us work for this, I hope its worth it in the end.

lol...that's one way of looking at it. "They made it big so it'd be a pain in the ass". I prefer to think that it's going to be that much better as a result. We'll see, one way or another.
Then again, you euros have those lovely bandwidth caps to deal with. :p

ok, so I'm installing the enhanced edition. There's no (easy) way around the registration. It actually checks to see if you have an online account created and gets your game registration key. Blah.
anyway, I got this dialog box during the install of the main enhanced edition upgrade file. lol...2 hours. That's hand-typed, too, not some sort of auto-generated countdown.

I'm guessing it wasn't just replacing files, it was opening them up and making bit-level changes. I left for a few hours, came back and it was done, so no clue how long it really took.
Anyway, if it's not obvious I'm playing this game again. I can't say I'm noticing a difference yet, but I'm still in nub land. The LOD issues with faces is gone, which is a relief, but that may have been my graphics driver and not the game. It's been long enough now that I don't really remember everything, but I remember enough that the combat and alchemy stuff isn't a complete mystery. That's a positive thing.

Saw the enhanced edition at the stores yesterday, for a decent 30 €...came with art, manual, and the original Witcher book. So I will probably pick it up once I get paid next week.

It's an enjoyable RPG with decent graphics. The cussing and sex kinda add to the flavor, though the first time you hear a peasant drop the f-bomb may be a bit disconcerting.
It's pretty linear (other than an allegiance choice about halfway through) so there's not a ton of replayability. Still, I'm trying.

Interestingly, a poll on the gamebanshee main page on "the best rpg of 2008" has The Witcher: EE leading the board, outdoing Mass Effect and Fallout 3 by a good margin.
GameBanshee Poll
What was the best RPG of 2008?
Fable II (11.48%) Fallout 3 (18.03%)King's Bounty (3.28%)
Mass Effect PC (22.95%)
Mount & Blade (6.56%)
NWN2: Storm of Zehir (3.28%)
Rise of the Argonauts (0%)
Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (3.28%)
Space Siege (0%)
The Witcher: EE (31.15%)
Mmm. It's even more perplexing considering that Fallout 3 and ME were released on multiple platforms, and the Witcher only on PC. Ok, in ME's case the earlier release on the Xbox might have cost it some points - but still.
Witcher clearly gets a lot of love. I'd buy it if I didn't already spend godawful amounts of cash on other games I still need to play. Maybe next month. Still, good to see a PC exclusive game do so well in a poll on one of the net's biggest RPG-oriented sites.

Mount&Blade isn't really an RPG, it's more a medieval combat simulator. [shameless plug] Download the demo here![/shameless plug]

Heh, how did you end up playing this game Arathorn? Interested in medieval combat simulators or just coincidence?

I can't remember, it was years ago, probably coincidence. The fact that it runs on my crappy pc is one of it's pro's for me, but if you want to see mounted combat done right you really should try the demo.
