Post E3 2018 game announcements
Figured I'd make a quick summary here of the (according to me) most interesting announcements at E3. :) Mostly just trailers, and some info if I have any.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

The Division 2

Scheduled for release about a year from now.

Quote:
Julian Gerighty – Creative Director from Massive Entertainment – reintroduced the background behind the game, before a trailer showed a community rebuilding by growing crops in a safe zone while around their walls, desolation and lawlessness rule in Washington DC.

Otherwise the presentation focused on endgame stuff. For example, at the end of the new story campaign, players will choose one of three classes called specialisations which allow you to unlock new weapons and perks and advance past the normal level cap. On top of that, the new game will have raids, in which 8 players can partner up. Otherwise, the game is still following the template set down by the first game: there will be frequent content updates, with the year one content being three episodes of DLC including new story, new areas, and new activities. All those updates will be free for everyone, so no season passes this time.

Skull and Bones

A shared world multiplayer pirate game, if I understand it correctly. Trailer has a lot of info. Actually looks quite nice.

Transference

A horror game mixing FMV footage with normal game engine images. Looks promising, but then I am a horror fan.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

The next game in the Asscreed series, which can be added to Satis' backlog. :D Looks quite fun though, in the ancient Greek setting. Out later this year.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Aaand the next game in the rebooted Tomb Raider series. Out later this year.

Elder Scrolls VI

It's been announced, but that's pretty much all we know. Years away, no news about the setting, or anything else. Even the trailer doesn't say anything. Looks like High Rock, or Hammerfell, neither of which are inspired locations on the continent of Tamriel. But who knows.

Starfield

Quote:
Bethesda Game Studios, the folks behind The Elder Scrolls and the new Fallouts, today announced a mysterious new game named Starfield – “our first wholly original franchise in 25 years”, according to studio director Todd Howard. He called it a “next-generation singleplayer game” but, beyond that, didn’t reveal anything concrete. This is a game that’s a fair way out, something we won’t even see for a fair while, let alone play. But I can tell you for certain: space is involved.

Trailer doesn't really tell you anything, again.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Next game in the Wolfenstein shooter series, this time a coop shooter featuring blaszkowic' daughters. Looks like it could be fun. Scheduled for 2019.

Doom Eternal

The sequel to the great DOOM reboot of 2016. Looks like hell has frozen over, and it's time to kick them back to the right dimension. Can't wait for this one. :)

Cyberpunk 2077

One of my most anticipated games in years; the next big game from CDProjekt Red (of Witcher fame). It's a new games franchise based on an exisiting cyberpunk franchise (that I am not familiar with), and the trailer seems to have the broiling madness of a cyberpunk city down to a T. Worth a watch. Planned for summer of 2019.

Metro Exodus

Next instalment in the Metro series, which takes the player to the overworld...no more tunnel life. Trains, boats, cars...looks pretty damn cool, but then I'm a sucker for the setting. Out early 2019.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

Newest game from the studio that made the (wonderful) Life is Strange. Set in the same universe but only loosely related to that game, I think. Will be released in June, for free. Think it's meant as a step up to Life is Strange 2.

Fallout 76

Scheduled for later this year.

Quote:
As rumored, Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer survival game in the vein of DayZ or Rust. That's quite a departure from Fallout's traditional singleplayer roots, though Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 76 will have a storyline and quests to complete as in its singleplayer RPGs.

And unlike some other online survival games, you'll be sharing the world with relatively few other players. There won't be hundreds of players per server, but dozens. On Fallout 76's sprawling map, it sounds like you won't be running into other players every time you turn around. When you die, you won't lose your progress, either.

"This is not an MMO and this is not a battle royale," Bethesda's Pete Hines told Variety. "It’s supposed to feel like they just left the vault."

It will feature a base-building system that look similar to Fallout 4's settlement construction features and sentry defense systems. Those bases, as shown in gameplay footage, can be attacked and destroyed by enemies. According to Bethesda's Todd Howard, you'll be able to build your settlement anywhere on the map you desire, and you'll even be able to pack it up and move it elsewhere.

Don't Starve: Hamlet

An expansion for the existing survival game Don't Starve. Scheduled for later this year.

Call of Cthulhu

Private investigator, fishing towns, pyschological horror, Cthulhu: what's not to like? :-D

Yea, some of those games are really interesting to me as well. Hadn't seen Phoenix point, but Division 2, Elder Scrolls 6, Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus, and Fallout 76 get me a little excited.

Yeah Fallout 76 looks like it could be fun with some friends honestly.

Thanks for the Phoenix Point addition Peltz, definitely a game I'm looking forward to as well!

Btw, there are no gameplay images of Cyberpunk 2077 yet (not online at least) but there was a demo behind closed doors. Every reporter that saw it has come away incredibly impressed, though.

Yea, not alot out about 2077, but supposedly this image is in-game, with a ton of dynamic movement and stuff that makes it breathtaking (especially from a technical standpoint). We'll see how that turns out when the game finally ships, though. Been burned too many times by impressive tech demos that didn't quite pan out.

I remember playing a leaked Doom 3 alpha on a friend's computer back when I was in college and we thought the engine was insane. Of course, the alpha ran like shit because it was an alpha and his PC wasn't super fast, but we got really hyped. Then the game actually came out and it was like....this is it? Or the 'radiant AI' of Oblivion. Touted as revolutionary, in reality looking really dumb and cities just contained 5 people. So yeah I get it haha. But this is CDprojektred and they've yet to disappoint me - if anything they always went beyond my expectations, which is unheard of in video games.

@ Peltz, a friend who backed it sent me the beta build of Phoenix Point. May give it a go today.

Not in my E3 list but a game that does look pretty interesting: GTFO

So basically a L4D-like coop horror shooter. If it turns out to be any good we should get a team together...

Awesome. :-) That leaves only one victim haha. I'm sure we'll find someone willing to join, or we can just fill the slot with a random I suppose.

But let's wait and see if the game's any good first. 8-)

Some more Fallout 76 info and clips

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/0 ... g-systems/

Quote:
When you first shoot another player, you won’t deal too much damage until the other player responds, at which point a real fight breaks out. Higher level players won’t receive many benefits from preying on lower level players, either, and if someone is killed without fighting back at all, their killer becomes a “wanted murderer.” The murderer receives no reward for killing the player who doesn’t respond, and instead, a bounty is placed on their head. Other players can see their location on the map, and if they are killed they will lose the bounty money from their own pocket. “We turned assholes into interesting content,” Howard summarised.

Another big question mark in my mind is on the subject of nukes, which players can find and detonate, destroying other players, their buildings, and the environment around them. Using them is also incentivised as it’ll create a minature wasteland-within-a-wasteland, with new enemies and rewards. And where the anti-griefing systems may have allayed some of my fears, the discussion here did not. “Nukes, very cool,” began Steinman. “Nukes are very cool,” agreed development director Meyer.”

Post Re: E3 2018 game announcements
Figured I'd use this thread for a few new game announcements at the Game Awards this week:

Rage 2

Wasn't a huge fan of the original Rage (although it was definitely enjoyable), but it looks like they're taking things to a whole other level with the sequel. At least if you believe the trailer, which we shouldn't. :-) Great stuff though. Out May 2019

Dragon Age 4

Just a teaser trailer, and not much info (it's still very early in development). I haven't played any of the Dragon Age games since the original (which was great), so I doubt I'll pick this one up any time soon.

Hades

The newest game by Supergiant games (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre). All of their games have been really sleek with great gameplay, so expecting this one to be pretty good too. It's already available in early access on Epic Games' exclusive online store. Which makes me dread this game's future a bit, but hey. :P

Far Cry: New Dawn

Far Cry goes post-apocalypse. Looks like someone took one of the previous fallout games and merged it with a very colourful mad max, wich is not bad at all. Not really my bad but if you're into the series this will definitely scratch your itch.

The Outer Worlds

The big one, as far as I'm concerned! Obsidian's newest franchise, a 1st person RPG set in a scifi western sort of setting, with a serious dose of zaniness. The artwork looks great, knowing Obsidian the RPG elements will be fleshed out and I love the setting. This is one I'm looking forward to, as it's headed by the makers of the original fallout games and arcanum, some of my favorites of all time.
