Descent sequel being kickstarted
I don't know if you guys ever played Descent in the 90s, but I sure did. It was a huge deal when I was in college. At any rate, there's a sequel being kickstarted. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/descendentstudios/descent-undergroundApparently it started off as a game 'inspired by' Descent, but then the people that own the Descent IP found out about it and offered support to make it an official sequel. That's pretty badass. If you never played Descent, I'm sorry.

I played Descent, but never was a big fan. So I'm gonna pass. Seems like they still need almost 50% of their funds with only 4 days to go...think they aren't gonna make it.

Re: Descent sequel being kickstarted
What do you know, they made it, with a few hours to spare. Hauled in 601k, goal was 600k. Lucky.
I kinda wonder though sometimes...since Kickstarter only allows you to take home the cash if you reach your goal (no partial funding afaik), how many of these people or companies actually throw in an anonymous 50k or so of their own way at the end when they see they are gonna be close? I mean, the payoff would still be worth it. You gain a lot of funding you would have otherwise lost for only a small loss on your own injection (kickstarter's fee, taxes). I've seen some lower profile kickstarters that certainly looked suspicious. Wanted 40k, were at +- 20k a few days from the end, then suddenly 2 people invest 10k each, the highest 'reward' rank. No one funding on ranks for 7k, 5k or 3k. Myeaaah.

I wouldn't be surprised. But is that even against the rules?

I have no idea! I'm guessing it's not technically against the rules, even if it is morally a bit iffy.
But why would kickstarter care really? They get their cut regardless who put in the money.

Re: Descent sequel being kickstarted
It'd be pretty sneaky. Put in 10k to beat your goal by using a high-limit credit card, then take the funds from the successful kickstarter to pay off your credit card and keep the balance. Profit!
