TOR is $15/month unless you buy multiple months at once, in which case it goes down marginally. I'm just subscribed monthly. In any case, it's not a whole lot of money. Of course, if I cancelled that, the gym membership I don't use, and the massage membership I don't use, that's like 2 games a month.

I stopped playing the Division. I may pick it up again on Tuesday when some new content comes out. It got boring. Still haven't played SWTOR in the last few months. I've been playing Civ 5... beat it on 'stupid easy' and am now playing it on 'damned easy'. *shrug* I like conquering, but I don't like it to be too difficult. I don't expect I'll play it a third time, but who knows. I never chose who I was, so I ended up as Ghengis Khan the first time and Montezuma now. I can't say the bonuses were really what I was after, but I'm not playing it on a difficult enough setting to really matter so much.

:-D I love the idea of you being a conqueror who is like..."guys, let's invade Russia. But only if it's not too hard, because I got other stuff to do too".

I've heavily modded Oblivion and am playing that now. It's really quite good when you mod around the potato faces, messed up leveling system (no more highway bandits in glass armor), and the silly restrictions on magic and enchanting. The quests are well-written and fun and even the world looks nice. I'm running with like 30 mods now and I keep adding more.

Goes something like "well this is kind of annoying. I wonder if there is a mod to make this better/more fun" when I am playing. And since the game is 10 years old, the answers is always YES.

Stacking my books in my library is annoying? -> modded that shit
Bow damage is ridiculous even at higher levels (takes 30 arrows to take out some normal opponents) -> modded that shit
Lockpicking takes too long? -> modded that shit for an instant level check
During sneaking/stealthing, sound travels through solid walls (only determined by distance) - > modded that shit. It even modifies the sounds you make depending on the environment you're in...during the day in a busy city, or in a storm, you can afford to be louder
Can't "execute" sleeping people? -> modded that shit
Can't delete spells from my spellbook? -> modded that shit

And so on...since Skyrim is now almost 2-3 years old and all the expansions are out I may do another playthrough of that, but modded like a mofo of course. :P

Just to give you an idea about how good the potato faces look like now

I remember how beautiful that game was when it came out. Now... jeez. I recently loaded up Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, and holy crap, the graphics are horrific.

There are so many games I'd probably replay if the graphics got updated to modern standards.

Still playing Civ 5. My Montezuma game was on a real world map at standard size (I think). I currently own all of South America, all of Australia, South Africa and I have a city in Indonesia. I have some vassal city states in South America and Australia as well. I conquered Venice the city state, which owned the south of the South American continent, of course. Otherwise, however, I've stayed away from combat. I'm just aggressively founding new cities and pushing toward a cultural or science victory. Not sure which. As Montezuma, my civilization bonuses aren't really conducive to that, but whatever. I'm the only civilization in the modern era and I'm working on finishing unlocking my fourth social tree. I think I've completely unlocked tradition, liberty and freedom and am working on order, which helps with huge, sprawling empires like I have. Anyway, it's fun, and as I'm figuring out how the game works it's actually becoming more interesting. Lots of little things I didn't realize on my first play through.

Damn, you makin me want to play Oblivion now. Or Skyrim.

I might give it a shot. The only thing i dislike about both of them now (besides dogshit inventory management - even modded) is the main quest, which feels too compulsory for genuine replayability. I might install Skyrim and get all the expansions, because i think i've only played and completed vanilla.

I'm enjoying Terraria now. I'm on my first world, but I think i'm doing ok. I've got 4 platinum coins, and the Arkhalis sword which is pretty much legendary. Killed a few bosses, explored the Dungeon. I've got about 10 peeps living in my apartment block. I really want to find a key for the Pyramid Temple but I think i need to break into hardmode for that. I've only had 2 cracks at the Wall of Flesh. The first time, I was woefully unprepared and failed miserably, falling into lava if i remember correctly. The second time was better, but I didn't have a suitable ranged weapon to take out the last remaining eyes. I have a pistol now, and have constructed a large platform to fight on, but I don't feel that's going to be enough. Happy exploring still.

A little while back, i was heavily into Prison Architect, but now i've gotten to a point with my current prison (all supermax inmates) that my CPU is struggling, so I can't really expand much.

Sounds like Terraria has changed quite a bit. Maybe I'll give it another shot. I never really got into Prison Architect, though I have it installed on my laptop. Whenever I game on that, though, it's usualy Kerbal Space Program. I can't believe you guys don't play that. I'm so disappointed.

Re: the Oblivion main quest...yes, it's been implemented pretty badly. Not so much because the main quest is bad - it's ok - but because of the goddamn Oblivion gates. As the main quest progresses a bit, they start opening up all over the province. You can mostly ignore them, but they are freaking eyesores and take the fun out of the 'exploring an open world' part. Call it a constant reminder that the world is still ending and that you need to go do the main quest. After you finish the main quest they all disappear. I mostly finish the main quest quickly for that reason. I think in Skyrim there is less sense of urgency, although the dragons do get annoying too. At least they are active participants in the world and also attack other creatures for immersion, while the gates are just...giant red gates. Not to mention the fact that they are still kind of boring carbon copies of each other. I just sprinted past everything and cast invisibility all the time, fuck slogging through 5000 daedra every time. Just sprint to the top in 3 mins, grab the sigil, close the gate.

The only reason I haven't done a similar playthrough of Skyrim is that I hadn't played Oblivion's expansion Shivering Isles yet (also the Skyrim Legendary Edition was always just too expensive). But I will do that soon.

On that note, I am now playing Shivering Isles and it's really really good. The 'main quest' is great and much better (and longer, for some reason) than the vanilla Oblivion one. It's hard to understand. It feels like they decided "well, now we know everything we can do with this engine/system, let's make an actual amazing game with that knowledge". Great fun, beautiful setting, decent story.

Satis, I'd really love to play Kerbal Space Program but I'm afraid I might get lost in a Dwarf Fortress - like hole and never return.

Post Re: What are you playing now?
I'm getting close to the end of my time replaying heavily modded Oblivion as I played through most of the 'quest' content. Also been playing it a lot in the last month so getting a bit tired of it. On evenings when I'm tired I usually just read some books in-game with a glass of wine or a beer. That sounds extremely lame and probably is, but you'd be surprised at the quality of some of the in-game books. They're usually not too long and offer a good insight in the underlying lore of TES universe, or just amusing or interesting tales. Funny note: some of the books that already appeared in Daggerfall and the like featured some pretty weird seriously pornographic stuff (inter species sex with descriptions of khajit penises etc). In the more recent games like Oblivion these books are still there but those passages are blotted out and are marked with a 'censored by the Imperial board' note. I thought that was a pretty funny meta way to deal with the changing times by Bethesda.

Anyway so using this helpful mod I created a massive book case (increased the dimensions) and filled it with all the books I found and read during my travels so far. It also automatically files them alphabetically, and keeps books that are part of a series together. Really neat. :) The setting the case is in is a bit meh, but I couldn't be arsed with constructing a more "study" like room in the modding set. I'm still missing a book from two series which is slightly annoying...not because I need them to be "complete" per se but because they are both in the middle of the series. I might just read those online I guess.

Either way, pic attached. :P Now I know what to do when I play modded Skyrim.

Btw Derf, re: your comment that even the modded UI is terrible...the Darnified mod for Oblivion is amazing. It's highly customizable too. I haven't looked into the latest version for Skyrim so I can't say much about that, but the Oblivion one is just ace. This video gives a good idea of what it looks like, plus the sorting and customization options.

The first 2-3 minutes are the guy showing the (horrendous) standard UI. Then he switches over to the Darnified one and showcases the different pages, font changes; general on-screen UI changes and so forth.

I'm done with my Oblivion playthrough, and I finished the Shadowrun Hong Kong bonus mission. Had my brother over for a few days and since I'm off (still contracted and employed, but not working) we basically did 5 days of beaches, snorkeling, drinking and eating good food. Just installed Far Cry 3 (which I believe Peltz once gifted to me; thanks!!), so we'll see how it goes. :)

Still on Terraria and nothing else.

Gotta love the casual and abstract (yet pretty) art. And the huge world I guess.

Post Re: What are you playing now?
I picked up Watch_Dogs when it was on a major sale.. I think I got it for $15 including the season pass and all that bullshit. It's a good game, actually, I'm really digging it. Reminds me a lot of Grand Theft Auto with the open world and missions freaking everywhere, though there's only one main mission line. Tons of side crap to do, though. I've done maybe 5 story missions so far, but a ton of side content. I'm not actually a fan of GTA... it's console crap. This is way better (though still a little consolified). The gunplay is pretty fun. The hacking is total BS, but it's fun.

Unfortunately, this game destroys my computer. I pretty much have to play it on low graphics for it to run. It makes me sad. I may have to replay it when I build a new machine. *sigh* I say that a lot.

Other than that, still play the Division. I played a bit of Sunless Sea. It's fun, but it small quantities, I think. Kerbal Space Program some on the side.

Wait, Watch_Dogs is actually fun to play? Might be worth trying some time then. :) The game obviously appeals to me in terms of ideas and concept, but I always thought it was a fairly meh console port.

Sunless sea is great in some ways, terrible in others. It consumed my life for a while until I found out that it's broken in many ways. Still, I 'beat' the game once, I liked the writing and atmosphere too much not to.

Helping out Derf now with his Terraria world, good fun. Also bought the Gabriel Knight 2 and 3 games on the Gog.com sale, as I enjoyed the first one so much when I played it a while ago. I may be about 30 years late to the party, but still. :P

I quit playing Watch_Dogs. It kept hard-locking my computer, and I'm tired of dealing with it. I'll try again once I build a new PC, but if it keeps acting like a douche I'm done. Hopefully that Steam sale will have some good stuff. :) The Division's first paid DLC drops on June 28th. I shall be investing.

Shiny's PC was actually down for a week and change due to hard drive failure. We've now moved her to a 1TB SSD and Windows 10, so she's back online.

So I've been playing Orcs Must Die! 2 with Shiny (yesterday). It's a lot of fun. Normally I'm not a huge fan of that kind of art style, but it really is an enjoyable game. The dwarves with bombs seem pretty useless though.

I picked up Assassin's Creed: Liberation in the sale and have been playing that as well. I'm quite a few hours in. It's a bit odd playing as a black woman during colonial times in New Orleans, but whatever. Overall the game is ok. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible, either. I suspect it'll end up being another middling entry in the franchise. I also bought Black Flag and another one, which I suspect I will really enjoy.

Shiny and I both bought the season pass for the Division, which the first paid DLC drops tomorrow. I expect I'll be playing quite a bit of that. One of the new things they added was dynamically generated dungeons that support 1-4 players. Assuming the loot that drops is worth it, I could see myself spending a lot of time doing that.
