Post Tactical XCOM in the works.
HALLLELUJAH HAAAALLELUJAH.

Quote:
Game Informer has teased its February cover story with the unveiling of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a new turn-based strategy installment in the alien-fighting franchise.

Firaxis president Steve Martin stressed the team's appreciation for the original, saying, "We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both diehard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."

EDIT: The video is not related to the game..

lol, thankfully I figured that out by the title. :P Cool... lets hope it lives up to the name. I could really use an x-com with modern graphics.

In case you didn't know: Firaxis, of Sid Meier, Alpha Centauri and a whole lot of other cult TBS games fame, is pretty much the best developer out there for these types of games...so very excited.

video interview with the devs. If you're an X-com fan like us, you'll love the banter. Very hopeful for the upcoming game! :)

Looks interesting. The art direction is definitely different. I've have to see more before I can pass judgement.

Long interview with the lead designer of the game at Firaxis. Grab a beer and enjoy. :) There's some vague blabla in there, but you can feel the guy's love for the original fly off the page. :) Parts 1 and 2, 3 to follow I think.

It looks pretty awesome - not sure about the kill cam thingie, but other than that...aliens look good, destructible environment, base building...can't wait. :)

Looks pretty good. a bit cartoony, but if the gameplay is good, I'm ok with it. I like how they blew off the top half of a grey and it turned into a green mess. :P

Quote:
When your units hit the field, you don't manage every individual trooper's time units (the currency that determined how many actions they could do per turn in the original). Instead, every trooper can make one movement and do one action – or, alternatively, make two movements – per turn. When you move, you don't have to worry about nickel and diming your movement points to get to just the right spot, you just look at the highlighted parts of the environment for that trooper and then move to anyone of the indicated positions.

So...simplified, but not completely stupidified.

Quote:
Base building also helps ground the new XCOM in the lore of the 1993 classic. Excavating the earth beneath your facility opens up new space to build in. How you build out your base is up to you: you could focus on hangars for air defense or perhaps build science facilities to gain more from the alien artifacts you recover in battle. Layout of your base matters, as bonuses are allocated based on location of buildings and their proximity to similar facilities.

Yes!

Quote:
Like permanent death, other parts of XCOM are, like the original, not very forgiving. The XCOM organization relies on many member nations, all of whom will ask for your support from time to time as they get harassed by invaders. The problem comes down to limited resources; you simply can't help everyone all the time. Neglect a country long enough, though, and it'll leave the organization and rob you of valuable resources. Thus, just like the XCOM games of old, your job comes down to triage: you can't save everyone, so how do you do the most good with the little you have? If you can't keep it together, you'll lose, forcing you to load an earlier save.

Hell yes!

Good finds. :) Even more stoked than before now. Not that we'll see the game anytime soon, but y'know.

A trailer! (obviously flashy and EXPLOSIONS because it's E3, so not very tactical or informative. But doesn't look bad)
