Some gameplay from Alan Wake from some Intel promotion thing.

Ignore the intro banter and skip straight to the gameplay. :P (1.40)

Dude, you been living in a cage? :P Alan Wake is a psychological thriller from Remedy, the studio that developed the Max Payne games.

Alan Wake is a horror writer who suffers from a breakdown/writer's block and goes out for a long holiday in a small town to regain his footing. But strange things start happening, and his dreams/writings start to come to life.

Should make for an awesome enough game, given the engine, the developer and the story.

And the fact that he wields a revolver. It feel so old-school, in a good way.

What was that Clive Barker game Ox was drooling over a few years ago? Undying? Are we talking about something similar to that or what?

Anyway, sounds cool, I'm always up for something different. As long as it doesn't suck.

Don't knock Undying, ya ho! It's still cool. :P

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y5qDLKJIAw

And it'll be more realistic, I suppose. Undying was set in Victorian England and featured magic and a twisted family...Alan Wake is gonna be more of a psychological thriller than a horror game (like Undying).

So yeah, be stoked. :P If Max Payne is anything to go by, Remedy knows how to take a 'genre' and take it to the next gaming level. MP2 was the apex of the 'game noir'.

Max Payne was awesome. I'd like to see more games in that genre, though Max's story is certainly completed.

Yeah...any drawing out of his 'saga' would be instantly lame. You remember the last words in MP2? Gave me the shivers, and summed up the entire love-hate-guilt-rage-driven trip MP went through.

A beautiful way to end the story. No big words, no exaggerated feelings. Just a release from the guilt. :)

Games like MP (especially MP2) and Bioshock are shining examples of how games can do better than anything Hollywood can bring on, if done right. It's rare that a movie gets to me, but some games...

Good to hear they're taking their time. The cryptic descriptions of the game progress are pretty cool, too. :)

E3 gameplay. Promised for spring 2010. This and the heavy rain game are a must on my list.

http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/69 ... -to-the-pc

Quote:
Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience "Alan Wake" was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform.

So the PC version is "cancelled" for the time being. Im sure when it sells for millions of copies they will bring out the pc port. For the moment though i think they just want to compete with Heavy Rain, which is PS exclusive.
