Another installment of my visionary thread.

Rise of nations: Rise of legends

This game looks awesome. Amazing art, fairly realistic proportions (Satis will be so thrilled) and developers that already proved that they can make a game with an involving gameplay. Check out the screens and the (short) E3 trailer. You'll see what I mean. Scheduled for spring 2006 ( :( )

http://www.riseoflegends.com/

Prey

A shooter by 3DRealms built using the Doom³ engine...looks awesome, and his some very neat gameplay elements and an involving storyline (unlike Doom³ where everything was oldschool). I'm expecting this to be the next big shooter. Scheduled for the start of 2006 :/

check http://www.take2games.com/index.php?p=games&title=prey
http://www.prey.com/ is up but nothing there yet. You can find a hi-quality, long, E3 trailer at http://www.gamershell.com/download_9504.shtml Check that shit out, especially the possessed children.

Hellgate London

The title already says a lot...from the makers of Diablo II, hard-ass shooter, set in apocalyptic London filled with demons, abominations and techno-paladins. It doesn't only sounds kickass, the screens are great too...and if the gameplay is anything like Diable II we're in for a treat.

Nothing much on the official site yet http://www.hellgatelondon.com/
But check out screens http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/hellgate ... index.html
and make SURE you download the superb cinematic trailer!!
http://www.gamershell.com/download_9393.shtml

You won't regret it.

Scheduled for the end of 2006 (!!). :/

Short mentioning again of F.E.A.R., the horror shooter coming soon (scheduled summer 2005) that i'm very optimistic about.

P.S. does anyone ever read the shit I post here? I mean, check out some links and everything? Just so I know if I'll bother next time or not.

i read them when they're interesting. only one out of that lot that interests me is Hellgate: London, which at first I thought sounded crap, then read a few reviews/interviews and now want it bad :P But its one of those I'll wait for until it's a lil cheaper, mainly coz i have to upgrade my 'puter AND buy BnW2 AND buy Fable: The Lost Chapters, all within the next sorta 4 months (if the games come out on schedule)

More games to look out for, some very nice ones this time.

Alan Wake
From Remedey, the makers of Max Payne (II)...a psychological thriller with very, very nice graphics. Set in a country village in Washington, Alan Wake is a writer of horrer books who comes to doubt his mental health etc. If you liked MP (who didn't?) and aren't afraid to do some gaming that's more than just the cool shooting, check this out. I'm very interested, for one.

www.alanwake.com

Paraworld

A good-looking RTS with a combination of primitive humans, dinosaurs and some modern humans and weapons. :) Good graphics again.

Spore

Perhaps the most original game concept in years, from none other than Will Wright, the man behind the Sims. Instead of building a great gameworld in which the players can get their groove on, Wright has a team of programmers code the basic tools and lets the users adapt their world from there. In his words: 'I don't want the player to feel like Luke Skywalker, I want him/her to feel like George Lucas".

You start off as an organism eating one-celled creatures, pac-man style, and will gradually evolve and evolve. During that evolutiun you can add new elements to your creatures like eyes, tails, claws, heads, feet...anything. Nothing is predetermined. The game will dynamically react on how your three-tailed creature for example moves on land. Anyhoo, you evolve on and on, until you have to choose if you want to go on land or stay in the sea...again, free choice.

After that first phase of development you'll start to develop your creature's brains, get more than one of your creatures, make a tribe, potentially arm your tribe (the game will calculate how and with which limb they'll choose to equip it, if they can at all). Then you can build cities, houses, antyhing, all freely mixable and customizable. Even vehicles, cars, tanks. You'll start to grow and meet other groups of creatures on your planet and potentially come in conflict with them, or you could build a UFO and explore other planets. You can colonize, terraform or even outright destroy them.

What's more is that, even tho Spore is an off-line game, ALL the other races and tribes in spore have been designed by other players. After every gaming session your tribe's info is saved in the online database and will be used in other ppl's games, and vice versa. That way laming is avoided but there is interactivity.

As you will have noticed from the long text here, I am very excited about this game. The idea is ingenious, and I reckon the dynamic game-player interactivity and undeterminedness is the future. Not too much on their site yet, but it's at www.spore.ea.com

Star Wars: Empire at war

For our Star Wars fan here, a good-looking Star Wars RTS , but we all know that Star Wars and RTS hasn't been much of a succesful combination so far. :(

http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swempire ... .html#Home

Total Overdose

Nothing extraordinary, but looks like excellent fun: a 3rd-person shooter with matrix-style moves, tons of weapons and to keep the killing sprees unbroken as the objective. Tequila, guns, cool moves, non-stop action: can this be bad?

www.totaloverdose.com, coming September.

That Star Wars game is very promising, I'm no Star Wars fan, but the studio behind it is mostly former Westwood staff.
Spore sounds good too, although I hate the Sims.

Empire at War is a game I'm really looking forward to, but for some reason the terrible capital ship/fighter scale is a bit disappointing I think. They say they did that to make it easier to keep track of your fighters. I don't care, the idea that 10 TIE fighters are as long as a single Star Destroyer makes it less realistic (if you can call SW realistic). Funny that something like this bothers me a lot while the SW:Rebellion fighters look like shit (imagine 2D images moving like a normal fighter, but the image won't change directions resulting in superhuman flying skills... or something).

Spore sounds incredible, but I sense the same excitement I felt when I read the description of B&W. It sounded all very advanced with the learning etc., but it was some kind of a disappointment when I played it. And about that interactivity thing: what if your simple organisms get vaporated by some 11-year-olds fighting machines? Will you log in and see nothing but the decomposing remnants of your once proud civilisation?

And Paraworld... great graphics. The heroes sound more important than the well-known better-fighter-than-other-units-unit but I'm a bit worried about the 'revolutionary unit management'. They dont give much details, but if it includes modifying your units with the 'fearsome warpaint' mentioned in the immense text, it can't go wrong (They might take our hides, but they'll never take our t-bone).

btw, on the Star Wars scale of ships thing, I read an interview where one of the developers said that the scale was controlled by a text file in the game directory. He specifically mentioned that enthusiasts could manually tweak that to reflect the actual sizes. :D
