well, Shiny and I went to Oktoberfest in our area again this year (it was this weekend). As usually, I got a nice buzz on, though Shiny didn't reach the drunken crescendo of the previous year, I'm afraid. Still, it was fun. Now we're both another mug richer.

Anyone else (especially in Europe) got any Oktoberfest plans still to be realized?

what is this fest? is it about beer or something? i saw a brochure on it and all i saw was a tent full of lederhosen wearing Jerries with pitchers of beer and the odd blonde broad waitress.

Not me, on our holiday we`ve seen enough germans for the rest of this year. Although i should visit the Oktoberfeste (in Munich) at least once, maybe next year or so.

Btw even if we would have wanted to go we would have to cancel it, my gf has a serieus infection around her teeth (wisdomteeth we call them literally in dutch, dunno if it`s an actual word in english) so now she kinda looks like a hamster and she can`t barely open her mouth.

Do it get this right if i say that in Texas you celebrate Oktoberfest? Because i would think that`s weird. Or do you have a large German community? After my first read i though you went to germany.

Oktoberfeste is celebrating throughout the entire US (in every highly urban area anyway).

Last week i`ve seen something about Oktoberfeste in Munich on tv. They used to be in Oktober (as the name suggests) but basically it`s just for the weather that it`s been put earlier. That was the explanation given.

lol...if google doesn't spawn links....hehe

Oktoberfest is a big American event. Not as big as the German variety, I'm sure, but still big. There are a lot of people with German ancestry in the US, maybe that's why. There certainly are in Texas.

Besides...it's a holiday (basically) in which the whole point is to get in a large group and get drunk. How can you beat that? One of the few times in the year you can get really drunk and walk down the street with a beer in your hands and not get arrested. :)

Hehe...it might have to do with that last thing you mentioned yeah, which isn't very straightforward in the US, judging by your statements. Nobody really cares in Europe, as your prolly know, so that's less of an attraction point here.

But the 'real' Oktoberfest looks just great, with all the beer, bratwurst, kitsch and bad taste. I am a fan of all those things, so put together I love 'em. The only bad thing about German beer is that it's pretty light, so it takes forever to get wasted. That's not always bad, but you know. Cool that you guys had a good time. Or you, anyway...poor Shiny drudging between all the completely drunk bums. hehe

EDIT: btw, haven't forgotten about the beer shipment yet, just being lazy about it. And thinking if the US has laws on importing alcohol.

bah....US only checks like 1% of the shipments coming in or going out. Don't worry about it. :)

...and what do you mean about German beer being light? Kostritzer is the god of all beers!

omg...this so rocks:

Honestly, i never ever heard of this beer you`re speaking of.

I think i prefer the 5 l kegs of Jupiler, Belgium just makes the best beers in the world.
