Discussing this with a law student, is it true, at least in the UK, that you can admit to the police have smoked cannabis as long as you have used it up and not get prosecuted?
[EDIT] forgot to add last part

So basically you mean you can get prosecuted for posession and not for using it as long as they don't see you use it. Could be, dunno about that.
I do know that when we were in London on a school-trip about 6 or 7 years ago, some guys almost got in real big trouble for smoking hasj and getting caught by the police. They were lucky they got off with a warning or something.

yes, drug tests are fairly normal. I just dislike them. I consider them an invasion of privacy. Nothing I can do about it, though.

Reminds me of when someone of my classmates got in problems at home because he used cannabis, now about 3 years ago. They told him to stop using it and every month or so they had him take a drugtest. That sucked. Don't know anyone that had to take a drugtest to get a job personally.

I never had to take a drug test, but then again, I've only had one job untill now.
And it stank so hard that I I'm not gonna work untill I'm forced to, that is, prolly after I've finished my study, but that's gonna take a looong time.

Is it just the Americans that have the tests or something then for jobs (excluding sportstars)?

Well, to be fair, it's not all jobs. Only some. It's up to the employer (and at the employer's expense). Military of course drug tests too. I believe any job that requires a security clearance drug tests.
I can't speak for other countries, though. Guys?

Over here we're not so worried about drugs.
I've never heard of someone having to take it.

Same here, i think liberal politicians would start screaming hysterically if anyone tried to pass that shitty law. Never heard of anyone having to do it either, so a "nope" as far as Belgium goes.

Never really heard of it over here either. We only really have drug tests for sports stuff, cricket, swimming etc. But then most countries do for that don't they...

This year Shane Warne took a diaretic (sp?) Which is supposed to cover up drugs, they did a random drug test found it, and he got a 1 or 2 or 3 year ban.... can't remember...
