So.. I finally pledged to a project on Kickstarter.

I pledged to LightSail, which is a light sail (duh) experiment for using photonic pressure as spacecraft propulsion.

It's looking for $200,000 and is currently at $86,000 with 44 days remaining.

I plan on putting a lightsail on my new car.

Or maybe I've been playing too much Kerbal Space Program.

BTW, the project funded. It's now going on to stretch goals.

That is really cool. :) Very happy that it got funded already, and looks like they will easily reach the 1 million stretch goal.

Very tempted to put some money in, although it's been a financially rough month. Then again, I basically would want my name in space and that's only 5 dollars so...

Is it me or does that Bill Nye fella look awfully familiar?

He's Bill Nye "The Science Guy". I think he had a tv show in the US for promoting science, which got him notoriety. He moved on from there to being more of a spokesperson. He had a televised debate with a rabid creationist within the last year or two, among other things. He's like a white and dorkier version of Neil deGrasse Tyson.

BTW, a Lightsail test rig was launched into space today. It's not a full test (that's for next year) but it's getting various data they'll use for whatever sciencey purposes they have.
