First, Nazis from the moon... and as if that weren't enough, now we have...

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

It's going to be a good year for films.

So, apparently iron sky is getting decent reviews. It's campy and over-the-top, but supposedly a pretty good movie.

But I'm here because of Prometheus. this is Ridley Scott's Alien prequel. OMG.

of the two, the first I think is the better trailer. Makes me moist.

Derf's Bel Ami Review

It's shit. Even for a chick flick. Pattinson can't act.

1 jade because Uma Thurman rapes him.

Haha! I see a distinct difference in movies being judged by Derf since +- a year. I feel for you man (but then I don't for the other perks).

So, watched a couple movies yesterday

Columbiana - the chick is hot, but the movie pretty much sucks. Avoid.

The Rum Diary - there were some very funny/amusing parts, but overall the movie was boring as hell. Avoid.

I thought that move was ok, though not amazing. Also one of the actors died in the middle of that movie...err, Heath Ledger.

BTW, we watched Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US version). It wasn't bad, actually. I prefer the original version, though.

Remaking foreign films into a US version is an interesting phenomenon. I don't think that really used to happen much* in the past, but the last 5 years it's been increasingly common. They did a remake of "Let the right one in" (called "let me in") which did ok at the box office, but I've seen both and I have to say the remake is inferior to the original even with the extra budget and gloss. It lacks the eeriness of the original, basically.

I wonder what the idea behind these remakes is. Wouldn't it be easier to just release the originals in the US cinemas and offer subtitles? Or would interest in a non-English spoken horror film with a distinctly European vibe be too low to make it a viable box office success?

most Americans are not interested in reading subtitles in a movie. And voice-overs are distracting/disconcerting since they don't match the lips of the actors. So, for non-English-language movies, a remake I think is the only way to have a chance in the box-office. For English language movies, though... by all means, they should work.

Trailer for Wreck-It Ralph, about a video character 'bad guy' who wants something new from his life. Looks fun.

hrmm... I prefer the Pretty Lights version of that song.

Anyway, looks potentially interesting (the movie). I may catch it.

I did end up watching Prometheus on opening day weekend. I thought it was pretty good. There were some Hollywood problems, but over all I thought it was pretty good, and a great set-up for the original Alien movie.

Good to hear. It's supposed to be fail according to the internet rage machine, but I think I trust your opinion a little more than the narrow 0/10 and 10/10 spectrum of internet voters.
