Good news for those of us who enjoy the occasional (or maybe even frequent) after work cocktail: tipping back a few can help fill your wallet.

Drinkers earn 10 to 14% more money at their jobs than nondrinkers - and men who drink socially, visiting a bar at least once a month, bring home an additional 7% in pay, according to a new study.

“Social drinking builds social capital,â€

somehow, that doesn't sound like you're gonna make more by drinking in your normal places ox :P ;) sounds more like you gotta be rich to start with to get in those fancy cocktail bars where drinks cost £10 each anyway ;)

yea, hate to say it, but drinking like we do (or shiny and I do, at least) probably won't increase our income. In fact, the cost of alcohol probably has a negative impact on my income. But it was a nice thought.

By the way how much cost a beer (on an 'normal' place) there pev/Sat?

at a club? I dunno, $5-$7. At a restaurant, maybe $5? In the real world... for Kostritzer it's $30 for a case, which makes it $1.25 per beer. But that's imported form Germany. I can get a 12-pack of Shiner or Foster's on sale for about $10, of $0.83 per beer. Some of the serious crap beer is even cheaper, but I don't stoop that low.

Wtf, 5 bucks? Over here your average beer is 1.80€ in bars.

And when you get the supercheap beer it's cheaper than most waters...I don't really want to know why that is. :) But I suppose you already covered that in your previous post. :P

You might want to add that like 6 years ago a beer would only cost about 1 or 1,20 euro (40-50 old belgian francs). So now i think 1.80 is very expensive already.

That's why i mostly drink heavy beers (and the fact that i just like those)

Here it varies from 0.5€ for 1l, which is crap, over round 1€ for 1l to 1-2€ for .33 at bars and restaurants.

I do not drink beer anyway so I'm afraid I cannot tell much more about it.

Not certain on beer, as I don't drink it and never have, but Mole could tell you on that. When I did drink, it was stuff like Smirnoff Ice, and that's usually £1.50 to £2.00 depending where you go

Oh yes, Vodka rules, pev. Just I am not that picky as you are. As long as it tastes well, looks ok and is expensive enough so I am sure it is not crap, I am fine with it.

hehe well I hate anything I can taste the alcohol in, and Smirnoff just tastes like lemonade ;) But I don't drink now anymore, so now its usually a diet coke for about £1 which is more of a rip off than the damned alcohol!

Ugh, I wouldn't want to live in a country where a beer costs $5. As a student, I normally pay €1 for a beer (at my student club). I think €1.80 - €2 is average in bars around here, but I never really pay attention to that.

A beer over here ranges from anything between £1 to £3.50 in a club.

A case of beer I'm not certain, I'll find out.

But yeah, we have what we call "Quids In Night" (Quids in is a saying over here for cashing in on some moolah) where beers are usuall £1 up untill 10 or 11pm

In general, if you buy crappy beer (Like XXXX) you can get it for £1.50 but a beer will usually cost between £2-3 per pint.

I generally dislike drinking in places where I hand the bar man (or maid ;) ) a Tenner for 2 drinks and don't get a five pound note back.

yea, that's just it... if you really want to drink, you buy your own and drink at home (or a friend's house). Drinking at restaurants/clubs is for the social aspects, not to get drunk... otherwise it's way too expensive.

And what's with all you nondrinkers? Alcohol is the social lubricant that keeps the world going round!

Nah. I'm not exactly a drinker either, though I think Pev will agree, when I do drink I drink just a little too much. But I think that's only because I don't get hang overs at all.

I know when to stop, but only stop if I want too.
