Plot Summary for
A Scanner Darkly (2006)

"A Scanner Darkly" is set in suburban Orange County, California in the future. It imagines a paranoid world in which it seems two of every 10 Americans has been hired by the government to spy on the other 8 -- in the name of national security and drug enforcement. When one reluctant government recruit (Reeves) is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a journey into the absurd, where outsourced government contractors largely define the social construct, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode, and where not even his girlfriend can be trusted. The film highlights the inconsistencies and ironic consequences of the war on drugs.

absolutely. I've been following this movie. The novel is excellent... and from what I've seen of the movie,I don't think it'll disappoint.

Keanu Reeves? Buh.

The movie will own. Too bad about Keanu but meh...I think he'll be quite good at playing a burned out doper, actually. :P He's a natural. Same with Woody and Downey Jr.!

I just hope the movie also expands on the human and even philosophical-religious questions deals with. And the somewhat amusing tragedy of burned dopers trying to say/do simple things but missing the gist. (the bike with the gears if you read the book)

Bring it on!

I saw a trailer for this movie before seeing V for Vendetta...and that was months ago. I must be coming out soon.

I've not read the book but I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

However, I'm certain I've seen a much older trailer than that, showing the animation in what appears to be a much more primitive state and in my opinion, the added cartooness of it intrigued me more than the attempt at bluring the lines between real and cartoon, that this ad seems to have.

IGN gets to see a 30 min sneak preview

If the rest of the film is as intriguing and affecting as the first thirty minutes, audiences should be in for a mind-blowing head-trip into the future. Stay tuned to IGN FilmForce for more updates as the film gets closer to release.

blech....anyway, it's not coming out near me until the 17th. The website sucks... haven't a clue where to look to find out where the early releases are. I'd be willing to drive into Dallas for an early release. Oh well, I guess I can wait another 2 weeks.

Surfing around their website, I did find a couple (apparently usermade) trailers. That just whets my appetite.

So, Satis or 11B drive to Austin yet to go and see the movie? :P

Or Pev and Mole?

In any case, I hate all of you bastards - it's not out here yet and not on the 'coming soon' list. Mmm. :?
