About half the US has prohibited marrying 1st cousins. What's it like in the rest of the world?

I believe that's illegal here, although I believe you can get an exception with the law for special reasons (no idea what those reason could be though).
If you don't want to get handicaped children it isn't advicable though.

It would take many many generations of first cousin intermarriages to actually produce problems, which is why it is not universally illegal. It definitely has a stigma in the US though.

I'm 90% sure that it's illegal in Belgium. I should check around to make sure, but I'll do that later.

I don't see what the fuss is about either....in a densely populated country like Belgium it's highly unlikely that this will happen in excess. It's prolly slightly more of a problem in big countries with low density and far-off villages, like the US.

I made out with my niece a long time ago, booya. Big deal. :)

Yea, its defiantly wrong, scientificly and morally.
