Aaaah!!! Fantasy!! My favourite!!

Well, i'm a little late to this topic, but my favourite series of all time is fantasy.

The Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody. It's not a very hard read cos it's young adult, But the books get thicker and thicker as you go!
I must have read them about 3 times each at least!

Doesn't anyone here read books other than fantasy? Action books perhaps? Thriller?

Authors like Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, David Baldacci?

I always like a good mystery, i'm not a big fan of that teenage real life shit most of my friends read though.

I recently read 'The World According to Garp'
I know it's a bit old, but i really enjoyed it.

John Marsden is a good aussie author... The Tomorrow when the war began series is good. Starting to read it for the second time, up to the second one.

I read a fair amount of scifi. Since noone's professed much of a love for that genre, I've kept it to myself. My girlfriend and I are also big fans of dystopian literature. 1984 and Brave New World being the most known of these.

Yes, those two rule. When was that distopian movie you talked about some while back going to be released?

i think it was "28 days later"...

and am i the only one with a memory carrying further than 2 months lol...i said in an earlier, similar topic that i'm a sci-fi fan and like read most of the russian masters (Dostojevski, Tolstoj, Gogol, etc. )

The only fantasy i ever read is discworld, and that's Pev's fault.

28 days later is not dystopian, but horror.

lol, shows how much i know about movies. I'm fairly confident there's a number in the titel tho.

Ox, you are probably thinking about Equilibrium. That is the most recent really good movie I know released that is distopian. It is a low budget film, yet very nicely done.

David Gemmell - The Drenai Novels

and i'm also reading the Forgotten Realms books about the Time of Troublesm, they seem alright, but the Driss books are better.


Arathorn - the Simlarillion is no way Tolkein's best book, it's so slow and descriptive, way to many characters as well. True its worth a read but it's not his best....

Like i said, a number in it! hehe Should go and see that movie sometime then.

28 days later could possibly be considered dystopian. The end's a bit upbeat, but for most of the movie the world is thought to be in ruins.

Shiny and I just went on a book buying spree. I think we picked up three novels by Philip K Dick (including the one Ox recommended), also some Frank Herbert, Yeats, err...can't remember the rest.

Dick, Herbert and Yeats, that's some pretty good shit.

Cool that you got Valis, hope you'll like it. And that you won't get scared off by the weirdness and random sprouting of ideas hehe After all, it's still SF at the core.

What other two PKD books did you get?

The other two books are "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," and "Time out of Joint." We also got a general Rimaud poetry colection book, and Dante's Divine Comedy. Very disappointing day though, I at least will have to find most of the books I wanted to get on half.ebay.com as usual. Damn stores keeping little of importance with isles of self help, 4 book cases dedicated to the Holy Bible. I mean really do you need that many mind warping books? Especially since two of the three stores did not even have a Yeats book that was not comentary on Yeats himself. What does that show you of our small minded area?
