yea, I think every country should be responsible for storing its own waste.
btw, most nuclear waste can be enriched and reused. Except that the enrichment process could also be used to make weapons-grade crap, so alot of countries that have nuclear reactors aren't allowed to have enrichment facilities (breeder reactors? I think). Anyway...that could be fixed by having the "trusted" nations buy spent fuel from the untrusted ones. The trusted nations get the benefits of cheap fuel, the untrusted ones get paid money for what's worthless (and dangerous) garbage.
Also, the amount of dangerous byproducts from a nuclear reactor are significantly less than from standard electrical generation (coal plants and whatnot). Just you don't hear people whining about that waste. Nuclear energy is actually significantly less damaging to the environment than most other forms of power generation. Not that anyone at Greenpeace bothered to notice, of course. :p
